I can't help but think films have lied to me throughout my life. Next yr we are meant to have flying cars, hover boards and yet we have none and don't seem to be closer to them :(

But we have large TV screens, microwaves, home automation, and holograms in public places.

I like James Bond in the same way I like Eurovision: it's trashy and occasionally offensive but fun all the same.

Speaking if trashy fun, I watched both Hunger Games films recently. I liked them, but only because I really like seeing very good actors turn it up to 11 and wear silly clothes (aside from Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who appeared to have walked in off the street, and generally looked very sad which was kind of upsetting).

Speaking of upsetting, I watched the Louie episode with Robin Williams. **** me.

I've never really enjoyed a single James bond film. Its all just so silly.

I think that's why Casino Royale is the best of them.

Die Another Day came before it, which was the silliest and shittiest Bond film of all. The absolute peak of the gadget wave, where the film was more about the fancy pen or car or sunglasses or whatever Bond had than the actual storyline or film.

Casino Royale was the exact opposite. Rebooted, stripped back to just being about Bond. Darker and grittier, little to no gadgets, just a **** good film about a secret agent.

Skyfall was very good. But it was a clear and intentional step back towards the silly gadget filled world of Bond.

ANd don't get me wrong, there is a place for that. I still like Bond films of the past.

I just think Casino Royale was a really refreshing break from the norm for Bond.
