It was obvious anyway they'd be dominant this season as well but they've took an already incredible car and innovated it further. They're going to crush everyone again

I know the sport isn't about aesthetics, but I won't deny that it is part of the appeal to me. This year the cars are quite dull to look at, with the minimalist approach (to paint) they are all taking to save weight. I did hear on the sky coverage of testing that they may change the rules to force the teams to put proper liveries on, and I really hope they do.

Still think it's a terrible look that the one team that properly broke cost cap rules have been able to build such a dominant car.

How long though can that be used as an excuse for the rest of the field not being able to close the gap.....

Saw some reports suggesting that all of Mercedes' testing was long testing. I.e. they were putting no focus on one lap performance.

Basically we haven't seen their actual pace yet.

Which makes sense given how far down the rankings they are on that testing session!
Whether they'll be able to trouble Red Bull is a whole other question of course

Their front wing is causing a little controversy too. Apparently it is within the rules, but goes against the spirit of the regulations.

Ferrari car just looks fast for some reason and I don’t mean based on what’s been seen at testing so far.

Mercedes by all accounts have a more balanced car aswell so you would hope during ghe races that Max isn’t at his absolute best they might be in the mix up for podiums/wins.

Have a feeling Alpine will be nowhere this year, feels likes they are going backwards every year. Have a feeling Aston will be nowhere as well this year.

So it seems the Horner investigation is complete, and they say we'll know the outcome before the race. So, not long now then. If he's innocent and stays, the landscape stays the same. If he's guilty and is let go, then I expect Newey will probably join Ferrari and we'll have the start of our new F1 era.

New clampdown on drivers lapping slowly during qualifying

New clampdown on drivers lapping slowly during qualifying

Formula 1 drivers face tight new restrictions preventing them from going too slowly between qualifying laps this year.

The updated regulations state: “For the safe and orderly conduct of the event, other than in exceptional circumstances accepted as such by the stewards, to ensure that cars are not driven unnecessarily slowly on any lap during and after the end of the qualifying session (including in-laps and out-laps) or during reconnaissance laps when the pit exit is opened for the sprint or race, drivers must stay on or below the maximum time set by the FIA ECU at least once in each marshalling sector and at both the first and second safety car lines (a marshalling sector is defined as the section of track between each of the FIA light panels).

“Any driver that exceeds the maximum time set by the FIA ECU may be deemed to be going unnecessarily slowly.”

As a further safeguard against drivers at high speed catching much slower cars, the race director has also issued new instructions on behaviour at specific points around the track.

“In the event of fast approaching cars, drivers should go off-line between turns three and four, turns 10 to 11 and turns 13 to 14 to avoid any high-speed differential between the cars on track on the racing line.”
