If 70 is the target then we need 27 from 17.

Which is a touch above 1.5 points a game.

Really we need 8 wins, as you'd expect us not to lose 9 in that time, and get 1 more win or 3 draws.

Newcastle (H)

SU (A)

United (H)

Fulham (A)

Forest (H)

Luton (A)

West Ham (A)

Wolves (H)

City (A)

Brentford (H)

Arsenal (A)

Bournemouth (H)

Chelsea (H)

Brighton (A)

Liverpool (H)

Palace (A)

Can we get 8 wins from that?

I love how everyone thinks Spurs, United, Newcastle are going to all go on big unbeaten winning runs, but think we aren't or couldn't 🤔

I don’t think it’s everyone I just think some think that.  I don’t and if they do then fair enough but I still think we’ll accumulate enough points consistently as we have done to get Top4.

Across the form table for the season as a whole, we are still third in the table, we can maintain it and finish in the top 4.

It's a great position to be in just need to overcome our recent struggles with creativity. Missing Buendia badly at the moment 😢

Well out of those i'd say the only one's were pretty much not going to get anything out of is Liverpool, City, Arsenal and maybe United as they treat every fixture against us as if it were a cup final.

We have a few fixtures away that could go either way, we don't do draws so they could be either losses or wins i'm looking at fixtures like WHU, Palace, Fulham.

You then have Chelsea and Wolves at home we should beat Chelsea but guarantee Wolves will do everything in their power to piss on our parade.

Beating Sheff United, Luton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Forest will be mandatory if we want to finish top 4 imo.

But our season has shown we can beat the big teams but struggle against the lower teams.  I think predictions are being based on what should be not what is likely to happen.  I’m just predicting ~2 points per game, whether just under or just over which I think should be enough for Top4. I’m not going to focus on individual opponents.

Noo we can’t rule those 3 out yet I don’t think. As annoying as that may be.
Whats a good season then? One more win? 72 points?

I'm not ruling them out but it would be pretty disastrous to finish below Newcastle, Chelsea or Man U from this point. We would effectively have to turn into a Fulham or Brentford for the rest of the season.

We are an average of about 12 to 13 points above those three teams, if we include goal difference too right now with 55% of the season gone.

So the expected finish to the season would be to end about 20 points above them as a minimum, as per the data/trend of the season to date.

To finish below them, they have to be the 2nd best team in the league for the remainder of the season, and we have to turn into them from the first half of the season.

I wouldn't use the short term form as any sort of extrapolation. I think detailed out in other posts - our injuries have taken it's toll - especially along the back line. We're playing our 3rd and 4th CB's and our best defensive CB at RB. Our LB is just coming back from a long injury and trying to play into form because our other LB is injured. We have no other RB beside Cash. Kamara has been missing for 3 matches and our one low block specialist (Tielemans) has been injured as well.

All teams have injuries, true, and you've seen Spurs drop off since they had to play fullbacks at CB too.

It will be close and for me - it just depends on whether we end up 4th or 5th and how the prem teams do in Europe.

I think if we can pull off the double against Spurs and Chelsea, and split one of Newcastle, United, or Liverpool - it would take us a long way to getting 4th. All of those are home matches and I struggle to think we will lose all 5.

I don’t think United or Newcastle will catch us. I think we will get top 5. Not sure if it’ll be top 4, so hoping for that 5th place CL spot - back every English team in Europe!

Okay, I love how everyone except @Adam2003 thinks Spurs, United, Newcastle are going to all go on big unbeaten winning runs, but think we aren't or couldn't 🤔

Haha - my point was more that I’d see Spurs as a very separate part of the discussion to Man United or Newcastle!

Yeah I agree at this point. United I see no chance - not consistent enough. Newcastle are missing too many players now.

So it comes down, in order of likelihood - Spurs, big gap, Brighton and Chelsea.

Only one of those teams needs to go on a run for us to fail with our season objective.

If the opponent is setting up to defend against you then you have already succeeded in my view.

By doing that they are literally giving away the initiative of the game.

If you are setting up against Spurs to defend you are gonna have a rough time as their strengths lies in the attack not the defence. You are basically letting them do what they want.

I respectfully disagree....In my view, they have conceded the initiative, but not conceded the game....we still have to win that.

Its like having a bank Vault left open....you still have to rob the money, to get the result.

A low block is difficult, no one is saying otherwise, but it can be breached and we have to find ways.....That first goal, fetches them out, we maybe have to find ways of varying our game at times.
