Files in 'the game's gone' thread. While you'd certainly hope the PL would block such moves, they would more likely stand to one side in the name of 'wanting to have the best players in the world play in the Premier League'. So the Saudi intervention is increasing transfer fees and wages, while now also affecting the loan market: great.

Competition grounds related party transactions all fall under extra scrutiny and need PL approval.

This is the Premier League. They would prefer Benzema playing in the league than some moral reasons

They let Watford and Udinese do so much business together

We need Nas to set up a new Egyptian team called Al Sphinx etc and then buy loads of stars to go there so he can loan them back to Villa 😉

The Premier League isn't some kind of stand alone organisation like UEFA. It is 20 clubs self governing their own league.

18 of those have issue with the 2 state owned ones.

That was the EFL not the PL. Also the EFL did stop it after one season.

But didn't the government step in and encourage the PL to allow the Saudi Newcastle takeover? Saudi have so much leverage everywhere that they will get what they want if they push.

That's what I heard and mentioned at pub tonight. Heard CNN podcast a few weeks ago saying China used to pay Saudi 4 billion a year for oil now it's 80 billion because of Russia Ukraine so Saudi has so much global power more than before

@thabucks any suggestions other than Sanchez? Do you think he’d be a realistic target even?

The problem is getting someone whose willing to come in as backup whom is an upgrade on Olsen… Also you don’t want to unnecessarily block Sinisalo, Zych, Marschall by signing a young keeper like Josh Griffiths from WBA if the club believe one of them could make the step up in time.

So you’re left with players like Olsen, Matt Ryan , Adrian, Karius… Are any an upgrade on Olsen ?

Then you move down the ladder into the EFL - Anthony Patterson at Sunderland. Stefan Bajic Is a fine prospect at Bristol City but is only 21 yo. Then there’s Viktor Johansson whose now playing for Rotherham was once on our books.

You’ve got Arnau Tenas as mentioned by some before. Djordje Petrovic Is highly rated in the MLS…

I remember last season, Eddie Howe was pretty adamant he wouldn't be partaking in this sort of thing, and/or wasn't interested.

Has something since changed, or was he taken out of context?

I haven't seen the quotes by the way, but I do know how capable media or of setting up loaded questions and then creating a headline.

Did he simply not comment? lol

Not so much more power as more money. The Saudi royal family only have all that wealth because the Americans keep them in power. And they only do that to keep their oil companies in the country, and to ensure they have a steady oil supply. China are allies with Russia so they are paying sanction prices! Although China still get oil from Russia and Iran!
