Klopp and Pep must have not got the invite to the meetings.

Given their comments about not being consulted, do you think they just rejected the meeting and didnt turn up? I'd love it if the FA actually didn't invite them 🤣

I’m all for time wasting it’s part of the game and a mechanism for helping to even the field against the better teams.

You do it at amateur level no one but the top teams and refs care unless it’s in their favour.

The issue has always been with too little time added on for injuries and subs not for gamesmanship time wasting.

Agreed. Also these rules unfairly punish lower half teams.

Man City can pass around the defence for 10 minutes at a time to regroup themselves and get back into their flow - with no time added on - with lower half teams just happy the ball isn't in their half. But should that lower half team then take a minute to regroup themselves, the time is now chucked back on at the end.

I do find it quite interesting that for all of the talk that people have shorter attention spans and want quick entertainment, the length of play has got longer in several sports. Golf rounds are ridiculously slow, there seems a big issue with slow over rates in test cricket, and now we are going to have football matches with 1 first half of extra time added for every match.

I watched the football daily the other day and Dougie said that last season Newcastle topped the table of time wasted, especially for corners and free kicks. So pfft to all those saying we are the worst. We don't waste that much time, we just slow play down alot.

Time wasting is a misnomer.  It's not about "time" it's about disrupting the pace of the game. Stopping the opposition from getting into any kind of flow, and getting them frustrated which leads to loss of concentration.

That's not going to change by adding more time on, teams are still going to do it.

I love it when Emi all game just throws the ball down and then passes it but as soon as the clock hits 75-80 minutes he gets the laser sight and tape measure out to precisely put the ball where the free kick/ goal kick is meant to be taken from.

“Here ref? No 1mm that way? “ “ref ? Ref? “ yellow card?? You’re a cu…” 😂

Disaster for relegation battling clubs this.

Can see the clubs with the stronger squads exploiting it too.

Making all 5 subs just get maximum additional time.

You can hardly complain about a team "wasting time" with the ball in play because they're better players :D

You think a club with a stronger squad will make more in order to have more time added on? I can't see that. They're now supposed to add on the actual time taken rather than an arbitrary 30 seconds, so it shouldn't work like that.

Oh no not at all complaining about it. It's part of the game. But so is poorer teams trying to frustrate them and slowing the game down. But only one is being written out of the game

They can still frustrate, kill momentum, regroup. There's just no time lost (in theory).

Not really a fan of the farcical levels of added time, the game is supposed to be 90 minutes not 110 minutes, will be very difficult for teams and players to adapt during a game when they have no idea how long is still to play, and the issue will very quickly become how (in)consistent the new rules will be applied by refs.

“Time wasting” is only an issue because refs let the players get away with it most of the time and then only start applying the rules at completely arbitrary moments during a game, usually too late or other times just randomly if they have decided to take a dislike to a certain player. It’s really not a difficult rule to enforce, if anything it must be one of the easiest  because there’s literally nothing else happening whilst the offence is being committed.

But once again rather than telling the refs to just do their jobs properly on the pitch and to use their common sense, they have come up with a convoluted rule change which will only change the problem rather than fix it. It’s like a never ending whack-a-mole they just react to one thing until the next thing inevitably follows.

this isnt really where the all of the time has come from. They looked at the number of minutes the ball is in play in a game and found it was reducing each season. In league 2 last year the ball was only in play for 48 minutes.

They also look at the average stoppage time for a goal, this is now 60 seconds where as only 30 was being allowed, the same for substitutes.

Obviously they also want to address obvious cheating and gamesmanship, but the majority of the changes dont relate to time wasting, just a fairer distribution of added time.
Im a fan (except when Emi starts getting booked).
