It is still offside if the ball that comes off the Liverpool player is a deflection, which is why I assume they gave it offside

But it clearly wasn’t, and I’m not sure it didn’t come off Konate before that anyway.

Offside is one of the laws of association football, codified in Law 11 of the Laws of the Game. The law states that a player is in an offside positionif any of their body parts, except the hands and arms, are in the opponents' half of the pitch, and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent is usually, but not necessarily, the goalkeeper).[1]

Tell me when a defender would deliberately pass the ball fwd to an opposite attacker

It might not be what he meant to do, but he meant to get the ball, didn't he? It was either that, or he meant to foul the man without playing it...

Is Peter Walton talking bollocks to support the referee’s decision, again? If his explanation is right, then there’s literally no way that Benzema can receive the ball without being offside, other than a Liverpool player intentionally passing it to him. What a ridiculous rule if correct.

The big problem with VAR is that in these situations where it is difficult to determine the intent or the rule or the offside or whatever, the benefit of doubt should always be given to the attacking team imo

Yes. He’s missed, or is intentionally ignoring, that Konate kicks the ball off Fabinho.
