Lange better have something up his sleeve if we actually have ambitions of top half never mind Europe.

  • A replacement defender
  • A new midfielder
  • A new striker

I agree with a replacement defender, I would like a new midfielder and I don't think we need a new striker (unless we sell Ings or Ollie) as we have kept Archer

We're a bit delusional if we think we're buying a new striker or that the club no longer trusts Ings and Watkins, even if buying one more could turn out to be very useful in the 5-sub system.

Which is not to say I don't wish we would.

If he turns out to be crap and people don't criticise him does that mean they are in Denayal?

Apparently there was talk of him being offered to Fulham, salary rumoured to be 2m a year, talk about going to Torino. He was on loan at Celtic when he was younger and got young player of the year and is 27, so I assume he can speak English. Signing him on a permie would probably not be too much more than the cost of a loan deal.

Apparently Denayer has very poor stats when it comes to aerial duels. Last thing we need is another CB that can’t defend set pieces.

On a positive he would fit in well with our other defenders and probably wouldn't take long to get up to speed 😀

How are we so bad at defending set pieces when we have a specialised set piece coach, does MacPhee only work on attacking set pieces?

Imagine if in some roundabout way, this turns out to be a blessing long term?

Say for example we sign another top CB ( Lacroix for example )

Next summer, we let go of Konsa, then Carlos is fit.

We then have a CB squad of Lacroix ( Or other top CB ) , Carlos, Mings, Chambers.

Possibly a CB stack we wouldn't be able to attract / convince about first team opportunities if Carlos wasn't out.

That's a pretty high calibre CB stack.

Apparently Lacroix is " Two footed " as well, so could cover both sides.

Clutching?

I'd play Kamara at CB v Bolton just to see how he looks on english soil but yeah if that's Gerrard's thinking then a new CB is certainty.

Years loan makes sense and then we sign them permanently next summer while moving a few out.

I wouldn't even have anyone from the first team on the bench vs Bolton, a lighting rig would probably fall on them at this rate. Or just straight up lightning from the heavens.

Denayer and Zagadou are both probably as good as we could hope for in terms of CBs with skill on the ball, and are young enough to have some sell-on value in a few years, potentially a lot in the case of Zagadou if he stays reasonably fit and progresses. He would add great aerial presence, too, and take some pressure off Mings there, but always manages to pick up some injuries of his own. We do have cover, so might be worth it to see if we can get him going.

Denayer, otoh, has a lot more experience and familiarity with the English game, but would probably want significantly more cash. Then again, more cash compared to Ligue 1 might not be an issue to a Prem club at all.

Zagadou would be worth it just for the potential chant to the song Agadoo.

It is an interesting perspective.

I will say that we will need someone with experience.

I cannot see us signing a young French CB, I think it will be a lot of mental pressure for a young CB to come here and do that.

Naturally our fans place too much pressure on players.

It is nice to read a positive post. It beats the we are not signing anyone, we are crap, Gerrard is crap, we are doomed and there is no hope for us. I guess some people look on life positively and others look for opportunities to make the most of whatever cards they are dealt

I can't see us dropping big money on a CB. I can't see there being the slack in the budget to bring in a CB we didn't expect to need to buy. If we replace Carlos it's going to be on a budget - either a free or a cheap transfer to fill the gap, more replacing a body than a performer.

I'd hope we still have our sights on other positions to upgrade. Though to be honest I'm not convinced of that either.

Now we just have to hope a midfielder and forward rupture their achilles too so we can get top class replacements in for them and the positivity will really be rolling.
