We can’t waste it and I from what I’m seeing and reading, this will be £16m wasted as he may fill a gap but I think we’ll be looking to improve on him again in 12-18 months time. If we signed someone like Bissouma, we’d be set for the next 4 years. Im hoping the fact we’ve bid for Bissouma means that he’s our number 1 target and this is a smokescreen for that (I don’t buy into that narrative personally). Basically along the lines of what's already been said, not really Juve level but should do a job for us. Decent price as well. Juve expectations are in a different realm to us, if Gerrard and the scouting team think this is the man to improve us then I back it. I am sick to death of the Bissouma link though I'll be honest. Brighton will want a shit ton for him and the whole "just pay the money" line does my head in as well. The club can't keep spending like absolute lunatics, this will catch up to us eventually. My view is that we should be getting major upgrades when we get players and not going for like for like if we are looking to move up the table. Also, the comment I replied to suggested that he 'could' be an upgrade. If there is that much ambiguity about whether is in an upgrade or not then I would prefer to steer clear. Don't forget Luiz has 18 months left on his contract, if he doesn't renew then he'll be gone in the summer, so getting Bentacur in now in Jan makes sense if it's to replace Luiz. By far the best passer of all the ones mentioned and although not better defensively than the others he has some impressive stats there as well. Most of us just want someone to sit in front of the back 4 and read the game well, put a foot in where needed and be able to pass and carry the ball through the lines. I don't see the relevance of the fact that Luiz has 18 months left. If we need to replace him then we should replace him with a better version. There will be lots of time in the summer to do this if necessary. The club a player plays for should not blinker us to the quality of the player.
