January Transfer Window - 2022

The last two times I thought we had very good transfer windows were:

  • Summer of 2015 - Ended up getting relegated with some of the worst individual performances of all time
  • Summer of 2021 - Horrific start, ended up with Deano getting the sack and all the signings have yet to hit their expectations yet.

Part of me has a sickening feeling with regards to being as optimistic as I am, but the difference this time is we're buying actual quality instead of taking punts on promising players.

Ings is supposed to be actual quality. Flopped so far. Successful signings is all about having a plan and understanding exactly how a player will fit into your team and system.

Digne and Coutinho fit perfectly into Gerrard's system and supply exactly what the first team is currently lacking, this is what makes me confident of becoming a success at Villa.

Ings and Bailey had no plan behind them, apart from 'our attack is shit now Jack has left, we need to improve our attacking players'. If Jack had stayed things would be different with Buendia. It would have been easier for him to fit in.

Sky saying Defoe is leaving Rangers. Will we finally sign him as a coach perhaps

I have no idea about his coaching ability, but a specialist forward coach could do Ollie the world of good imo.

Davis or Wesley were probably the playes that needs a striker coach more

I agree and I believe that Gerrard rates him highly as a coach too and the pair of them get on very well

Defoe coming to us.

pardon the pun.

Again, the off season/summer is the time to make major changes or even start a overhaul.

Hause staying (for now) is a positive, we’re light in that area. I just don’t know what kind of CB we should be going for right now. Stick with Mings & Konsa and give them some protection from midfield.

Maybe a loan deal would be best? For a RCB.

DM is the major priority and where we are lacking the most.
