Happy for Azaz to have earned a permanent move. Happy for Villa to be making some money. Sad for Argyle (grew up in Devon so they're my 2nd team and watch them fairly regularly).

Be good if we can send them another loan but guess they need to sort out their new manager first.

Rough week for them.

He still had at least one more year left on his contract after this season, he signed a contract extention before going to Plymouth in the summer, this was to avoid losing him on a free once his loan ended this season.

He's done well, very well, but he isn't one of the best players in the Championship, if he was that, a better team than Middlesbrough would be buying him, especially for £2.5m or whatever it is.

He's still obviously a very decent Championship level player though, which is an incredible rise he's had since signing for us, and maybe can develop more, but given he didn't have long left on his Villa deal, even allowing for the contract extention, then £2.5m seems about right, and who knows maybe we will have a small sell on clause too.

I thought we'd only ever given him one year contracts - the plan having always been to get him some exposure then sell him on?

Anyways, cheers Finn for the money and that one game you played at Walsall in pre-season - a fine servant to the club.

Tanswell is wrong about that, he signed a contract extention in the summer, he wasn't out of contract then, he still had one more year left on his deal at the time, so contract extention means he still had at least one more year on his Villa deal after this season.

There's no way we would be getting £2.5m for him if he only had six months left on his deal.

7 goals and 5 assists this season in less than 20 matches worth of minutes! 15 goals and 14 assists in total for Plymouth in 60 league appearances. Very impressive from midfield and makes £2.5M seem a little on the low side?

Aston Villa are pleased to confirm that Finn Azaz has signed a contract extension and will immediately join Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan.

'Contract extension' 🧐 I've been spelling extension as extention, but also lets examine the word extension - extension, it means to extend something, in this case we extended Azaz's already existing contract, if he was out of contract and he signed a new deal it wouldn't have been called a 'contract extension' because there would be nothing to extend, it would have been termed as him signing a new deal with us, not as a contract extension, we gave him an extra year on top of the year left he had, to avoid losing him on a free at the end of this season.

Judging by the article I think we might have inserted buyback clause, as it follows the same structure as the announcements for Archer, Ramsey, and Philogene, that is we haven't wished him good luck with the rest of his career, something we normally do for players leaving without a buyback.
