We're in the 5 sub era now. Hard to underestimate the impact of this change. Like other sports it will become a central part of teams tactics.

Whatever way we line up at the start, the game is now a squad game.

Players and fans will need to used to seeing some of the more creative players held back until the opposition is tired.

Can't the opposition then bring on fresh players to offset that?

We will see things like stikers playing one half each . And even subs being subbed due to tactics ( even without a sending off )

Can't wait to see him this season, got a feeling he will deliver a lot for us

Me too. I was very critical of him up to December but 2022 he was one of our best players most games he featured and chipped in with some nice goals.

Certainly more to come now he's fully settled here and will also have target of trying to make Argentina's world cup squad.

Only issue is how do we fit him and Coutinho in same 11 on weekly basis? Gerrard tried it for a few months and then we started alternating both from March onwards so that's still an issue that needs to be solved in long run.

Depends what they have on the bench.

End of last season our bench was actually stronger than what likes of Spurs and Arsenal were putting on themselves but problem was Traore and Bailey massively unfit and we were putting on Buendia at 3-0 down to Spurs so not much he can do in that situation.

Think good thing at least is Gerrard realises Coutinho can be rested on occasions as shown when he was left out v Burnley away and Buendia ran the show first half so hopefully that continues this season and we have some flexibility in the AM position.

Good point. Had forgot about that.

I personally can't see the five subs thing having that big of an impact. Regardless, we shouldn't even be talking about Buendia having to come on, he should be the first name on the teamsheet.

A good manager will exploit it. It's the same in other sports. Certain players will be asked to play at a tempo that they can only maintain for 60mins.

This.  Expect it to be used quite effectively by Klopp and Pep, and teams with deep benches.  They can basically bring on half a new outfield team.

I think Chelsea did this in lockdown vs us. Put on 3 attackers when we were holding on. Got the winner and took 2 players off

Yeah, seen Liverpool do it recently in the CL against Inter who were hanging on at 0-0 and Liverpool made 4 changes and changed the game.   Imagine next season you're a team like Fulham hanging on 1-1 at the Etihad with 20 mins to go, and then Pep brings on £200m worth of players.  It means super rich teams can now hoarde even more players to use as impact subs.

What a loser! He should be popping bottles in a club, not working out!

Big few months for him to get in to the Argentina squad.

Really hope he makes the World Cup squad, I think Argentina will do well.
