In the likely event we are in the championship next year, are any of these guys going to be ready to break the first team and play their part?

I can't help but think it would be a golden opportunity to give some of them a chance even if just off the bench or through injury.

The best players are striker Rushian Hepburn, winger Andre Green and centre back Easah Suliman. They are all only 17 years old at the moment, so they are a bit young but they are talented

Five-star Villa progressed to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup in style with a scintillating showing against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Winger Corey Taylor ran the opening 45 minutes and earned assists for his team's first two strikes.

Kelsey Mooney set the visitors on their way, firing home after a good spell of Villa pressure.

On 18 minutes, Callum O'Hare [pictured] made it two - heading home from another Taylor cross.

With their tails up, Ben Petty's side continued to attack.

Moustafa Zeidan embarked on a marauding run before shooting over the bar.

A fine solo effort from Andre Green after a neat one-two on the edge of the box made it three.

Villa were pegged back just before the interval, conceding a penalty after Johan Abdoul fouled Corie Andrews - Palace's Levi Lumeka dispatched.

The second half was a tight affair but Villa grew stronger as the game opened up.

There was a glorious chance for Palace to reduce the deficit to one - Aaron Bissaka's shot and substitute Dan Hogan's follow-up was off target.

A well-worked corner was tucked home by O'Hare for the fourth.

O'Hare almost grabbed his hat-trick with two chances in quick succession.

The first arrived on the back of a super run down the right from Mitch Clark before a second deflected strike.

The young lions put the icing on the cake in the final stages.

Andre Green tore away on the left hand side, picked out Jake Humphries and he rifled in a fifth within minutes of entering the field.

Coach Ben Petty said: "It was an outstanding performance from the team.

"We were pleased with our preparation in the lead up and were confident after the good run of form we have been in.

"We started the game exactly how we planned and some of our attacking play was excellent.

"It was a top class team effort but special credit must go to goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem, Jack Coates and Kelsey Mooney who were brought into the side after missing out on the Everton game."

U18s lost 2-1 to West Ham away yesterday, there's a report on the OS, Harvey Knibbs scored for us

Is that a real person? He sounds like some sort of Victorian railway benefactor.

Every time I read a report from the youth teams recently, I come across yet another name I don't recognise.

Is there any half decent wide players in the 21s/18s yesterday we Gestede but nothing else on the bench to change shape of the team. We were crying out for a winger.

Andre Green and Corey Taylor are very good wingers, have a look at the video a few posts above mine

Jerell Sellars was on target as our youngsters suffered a narrow defeat in a well-contested fixture against an Italia B side at Bodymoor Heath.

The Italian side was made up of a selection of the best U21 players from Serie B while the claret and blue line-up was a mix of U21 and academy stars.

Young striker Keinan Davies impressed throughout - his mix of skill and strength too hot to handle for the Italians' backline.

Villa took the lead after just nine minutes - Sellars converting coolly following good work from Riccardo Calder down the left flank.

Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic was called into action moments later - saving well when Federinco Di Francesco's volley seemed destined for the back of the net.

Yet, they were level from the resultant corner, albeit in fortuitous circumstances.

Niccolo Belloni's set piece taking an unfortunate deflection off Rory Hale to beat the stopper.

To their credit, the young lions did not let their heads drop with forward Davies in particular causing problems.

The former Biggleswade man charged into the box but was just crowded out when poised to pull the trigger.

On 27 minutes, the home side won a penalty - Davies, in the thick of the action once again, was fouled.

Sellars stepped up but saw his spot-kick well saved by Andrea Fulignati.

This appeared to give the Italians the lift they needed.

Winger Belloini continued to cause problems and he almost made it two as his cross was cleared towards his own goal by full-back Josh Webb - Sarkic alert to intervene.

As the first period drew to a close, clear-cut opportunities were few and far between.

Janis Cavagna tried his luck from distance but shot off target.

Starting with the same XI, the claret and blues could have regained their advantage after the interval.

Young star Andre Green embarked on a jinking run down the left, his cross picked out Niall Mason who was unable to keep his effort down.

Davies and Sellars both worked tirelessly up top and also saw efforts blocked.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Sarkic set the claret and blue goalkeeping tone for the remainder of the contest denying Franceso Vicari from point-blank range as he met a dangerous free-kick.

Moments later, Accursio Bentivegna turned the game on its head - completing a fine breakaway move to place the ball home.

Stopper Emmanuel Idem played the final 20 minutes for Villa and he shone between the sticks.

The pick of the lot his double save and stop from Cristian Bunino's shot on the turn.

Villa continued to threaten with crosses but no one was able to convert.

The fast-paced nature of the contest continued until the final whistle - substitute Tom Leggett's cross clawed clear before Luca Crecco dragged an effort wide at the other end.

Villa U21:Sarkic (Idem 70), Webb (Clark 65), Toner, Suliman, Kinsella, Mason, Hale (Leggett 80), Calder, Davies (Hayes 72), Sellars (Cowans 80), Green.

Serie B U21: Fulignati, Berra, Filippini, Bulevardi, Biraschi, Vicari, Belloni, Palumbo, Bunino, Di Noia, Di Francesco. Subs: Andrenacci, Dickmann, Crecco, Cavagna, Valzania, Bentivegna, Talamo
