At least Lingard wasn’t selected ahead of Grealish

I have more interest in seeing if our Montenegro goalkeeper Sarkic gets selected. He’s doing well on loan in Scotland

He has made the squad anyway

Is this considered a light stance on Maddison? Pulls out of the last squad for illness and is seen out at a casino 24 hours later, yet still makes the next squad. Would have thought Southgate would want to make more of a statement than that.

Sterling pulled from England squad after a bust up with Gomez today at St Georges Park

Surely the same should have happened to Gomez

Depends what happened I guess. If Sterling has gone in on him 2 footed or punched him them Gomez shouldn't be booted out.

From what I can find out it was exactly that. Gomez allegedly went to greet Sterling who was having none of it, words were said, Sterling grabbed Gomez by the throat and it kicked off. Players had to pull them apart. Sterling was initially kicked out the squad but after apologising was reinstated.

This is obviously unconfirmed but allegedly what happened.

A one off thing or the beginning of a Barca vs Real situation that Spain had from time to time?

Probably not enough players, especially from City to create the same divide in the England squad.

Hope the English media don't go on another hate campaign against Sterling now.

Probably during the most heated part of the rivalry Spain won the World Cup and 2 Euros

Yeah they worked through it and had the best squad in the world by some distance.

By all accounts it wasn't an ideal situation thou.

Seems like Sterling is out. I'm pleased Gareth has taken the opportunity to show a strong arm on what is one of the most in form strikers in Europe.

Easy to leave sterling out for a game like this. Performances of Maddison merits him a chance in the team. Know hw wants to look at younger players but he should beg Vardy to reconsider his retirement. The outstanding striker in Premier League since Rodgers took over.

Seems Gomez pleaded with the England hierachy to not kick Sterlng out of the squad.

The problem was that Southgate struggled to use Vardy very well. He set the team up for Kane & Vardy was always just a fill in for him. Both great players but completely different styles of play.

Really no point in Vardy returning to the team just to sit on the bench.
