Anyone know of he has been sent back? Surely no point keeping him here. If you can't get ahead of bunn you must be crap.

Not sure but likely if you consider this article from the Birmingham Mail with quotes from Smith (referred to on previous page via villareport link):

Aston Villa's forgotten man expected to leave in January

The latest AVFC transfer news

Andre Moreira’s season-long loan spell at Aston Villa could be cut short in January, boss Dean Smith has confirmed.

The goalkeeper hasn’t played a single minute in the league or even made it into Smith’s matchday 18 this term.

And following the signing of Lovre Kalinic from Gent, Moreira’s chances will be further limited.

“At the moment Andre has not really been pushing,” Smith said of the Atletico Madrid loanee.

“It is something we will look at in January.

“I have spoken to Andre about that already.

“He was not a goalkeeper I was aware of when I first came into the club.

“We don’t really think he has been pushing Orjan as much as we would like.

“That is only our opinion. We will see whether he goes back to his parent club and take it from there.”

Smith reckons current No.1 Orjan Nyland will BENEFIT from Kalinic’s arrival, though.

“He has been aware we have been looking to strengthen in that area,” Smith added.

“I feel it will be a real competitive area for us now.

“At the moment Orjan has got the shirt and it is his to keep.

“He has had a run of 10 games with me and has kept four clean sheets. Long may that continue.

“But we wanted to strengthen in certain areas and that was one. It is a great signing for us.”

Article was from 21st December, so obviously the Nyland bit a little redundant now. If there was any prospect of him playing for us, we would not have recalled Steer and this article suggests he isn't making the grade for Smith. I am sure he will be sent back this month.

Ship back and use the money/space elsewhere.

I expect to return in about 15 years time turning up in the indoor 5 a side Villa 'legends' side.

Andy Marshall, anyone?  I think the guy just showed up to all those autograph sessions with the fans, just so people would look back on his career and see that yes, he was indeed on the books at Aston Villa.

Reminds me of a story from my past...  I'm from Detroit and I used to work at an auto factory with an ex-Detroit Lion.  He was heavily involved with the NFL Alumni association and was the president of some Detroit Lions retired player association.  Every single piece of clothing this guy wore had the NFL Alumni logo and all he would talk about was how he was chummy with someone at the club, going to some dinner with ex-players, showing up to charity golf events, etc.  The funny thing was none of us could find anything about him on the internet at all.  No game footage, no record of him on any season roster, or anything about him, other than some article from the late 80s about him playing in a college game.  The only spot we could actually find anything about him was on the NFL Alumni site, from the organization he was the Detroit chapter president of.  Apparently, this guy never played a single minute in regulation for the club in his entire career and only played in 3 pre-season games over a 7 year career in the NFL.  From what he makes himself out to be, he was right there scoring touchdowns with Barry Sanders in the 90s, but he was actually taking snaps in the practice squad making the league minimum.

He’s gone, confirmed by the club.

Aston Villa can confirm that Andre Moreira is returning to Atletico Madrid.

The goalkeeper made two appearances for us – League Cup games against Yeovil and Burton.

We’d like to wish Andre the best of luck for the future.
