Bit like the Bruce supporters really. When we win it is due to Bruce's sheer brilliance. When we lose, it is apparently due to the players not being good enough, and he cannot be expected to be held responsible. It's all very odd really.

Thanks for letting us know what “the Bruce supporters” think.

Any news on what the Aston Villa supporters think? They are the people I somewhat foolishly expect to be using this site.

It would be my pleasure to do so. As an Aston Villa supporter, and one who happens to use this site, I think he is not good enough and we deserve better. I think he has failed in his objectives despite being given all the tools necessary to achieve them. I think he plays dour football that will not get us promoted. I think he shoulders part of the blame for the financial shambles this club became. I think his time has passed and he needs to leave. I think as a promotion specialist he is vastly over-rated and has been singularly disappointing for Aston Villa.

As you rightly point out, Aston Villa supporters are what is important. As one of those, I am sure that Bruce is not the best long-term manager for the club. Unfortunately, due to the mess (which I hold him partly responsible for) we have to retain him for the moment. So unfortunately given the situation, come match day, I will support my club and team, and Bruce by extension. Until we are stable and someone better identified, we continue to tread water.

Interesting that when I ask you what Aston Villa supporters think about Bruce, you tell me what you think.

You must know you don’t speak for all, or even the majority, of Villa fans. When the Evening Mail asked fans about Bruce, over 60% backed him to stay for this season.

Maybe you should start acknowledging in your constant criticisms of Bruce that you are in a minority?

EDIT - oh, and if you really think Bruce shoulders part of the blame for the club’s “financial shambles”, you really haven’t understood the dangerous gambles taken by our previous owner and what he nearly did to the club. Can’t see that Bruce took part in that. He wasn’t even here when the financial framework was put in place.

Well, you asked for the opinion of Villa fans. As a Villa fan I answered. Please show me evidence that I am in the minority? And I don't mean the Evening Fail. I would not believe that ad-fest if they told me it was raining outside.

Wasnt their "poll" of around 15,000 fans?so some small percentage of our fan base. In your example a majority of a small sample of our fan base thought he could get us promoted.

So no, I don't accept I am in a minority, just as you don't accept that he has done anything wrong.

Anyone who thinks that Bruce and his approach does not shoulder some of the blame for our financial situation with his failed, short term, expensive approach (note, not all the blame - I know that the concept of partial responsibility is difficult for some to understand), is particularly deluded.

No contribution from Bruce to our current situation :crylaugh:

Looking forward to the next manager.

Agreed.

Could I politely request that you refrain the constant bashing and repeated “dour”, “hoofball”, “deluded” etc comments regarding our current manager until this day happens? Let’s all stop going in circles in this incredibly tedious thread.

Many thanks

An Aston Villa fan.

....unfortunately!

PLAY ALL THE STRIKERS !!!!! (In fairness though he just took Robbie's plan A that was still written on the blackboard when he got here, and thought "hmmm, I'll keep that")

Certainly. Just as soon as those things stop happening.

Best Regards,

Another Aston Villa fan.

Whilst I agree with most of the above, I had no idea you felt this way about Bruce ;)

You know this sounds scarily like Donald Trump so I think I am going to bail this non-conversation. Something in the press you don’t like? Label it fake news. Easy.

You’re criticising the Evening Mail because it involved “only” 15000 fans? As opposed to your one?  This is beyond satire.

Well, it's funny. Every actual fan I talk to in person, thinks he needs to go. So yep I will take that as my sample group

Now, bringing Trump into it :crylaugh:maybe that will be the future "Godwins law". Losing a discussion? compare your counterpart to Trump and wrongly claim victory.

It's best you do stop as your posts are getting silly now.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I believe the question Evening Mail asked was along the lines, do you want Steve Bruce or Thierry Henry and not do you want Steve Bruce to remain Villa manager.

You're wrong.

"Should Steve Bruce stay or go? Here's what Aston Villa fans are saying

More than 15,000 people voted in our poll"

I don't think there is a clear minority or majority. Bruce has successfully split the fan base which was always a risk. Those who think he's the best man for promotion against those who see dour football and two seasons of failure in this league (he had 36 games left in his first season. I'm counting it.)

For what it's worth, I think we'll see a change sooner rather than later. He's a manager from the old guard. The Xia era. As soon as we have a wobble, and let's face it, we'll have a wobble, I think they'll pull the trigger and bring in their own man. My money is on October.

Who we replace him with is the subject. I've heard far too often "Who else? There's no one else". Leeds just hired Bielsa who's been available on and off for a while. Derby rolled the dice with Lampard and looked alright for the first game. Swansea went and got a great manager in Graham Potter.

My point is, we have a habit of wanting to keep the manager because "Who else?" Well.. There's plenty of managers out there, available, play exciting football and can win games. Don't give me the Championship experience rhetoric, it's nonsense.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Oscar Garcia.

Sam.
