A couple of things for me -

1) if Russia wants Ukraine then flattening it is surely counter-productive? If they ended up getting their way they would have to rebuild it (and pay for it)?

2) I think we are relying on the Russian people to solve this, I can't believe they want to be taken backwards 30 years without all the Western benefits they have enjoyed since?

But they can call on the Belarussian military for help no problem

It’s crazy isn’t it?

How dare allies help Ukraine protect themselves from our unprovoked invasion to which the goal is still not known. Please play fair.

This is a prime example of the rubbish reporting I was making earlier. Not the bit about the planes the bit at the end of the second tweet

"As Russian Troops continued their advance into Ukraine"

That isn't what is happening, there's nothing to continue, there are no reserves and the army haven't advanced for days.

It gives the impression that Russia are being successful when that couldn't be further from the truth

Basically they still have their whole army intact.

Primed,  manned and ready is a different thing though.

I doubt all of that works or has the personnel capable of using it effectivley.

Another thought,  Russia is one of the most corrupt places on earth with an internal and external trade in Arms.  The continued development of weapons' systems to keep up with the west demands and corruption free travel for finance, R&D, training and deployment.  Any holes in this would in fact only come to light once an enemy is engaged.

Putin could genuinely believe (As everyone has told him so) that Russia is a giant amongst countries in terms of attack capabilities.  In the last 40 years,  if corruption took away 20 % then they have a huge surprise coming.  Or do we assume there is no corruption in that industry?

Lastly,  The US are sending some Patriot missile systems to Ukraine.  It has had a few upgrades over its lifetime.  What a piece of technology.

The patriot systems rumoured to be planned to be placed around Lviv to start will tear Russian planes and missiles a new one. It'll be like the pictures of Israel's iron dome knocking out rockets, just with what Russia calls "the best aircraft in the world", SU35. The SU35 appears to be a big fat hairy lie.

Almost like Moscow didn’t supply entire air defence networks, modern fighter jets and even  pilots to fight for North Korean & North Vietnam against the UN/US.

It’s a great shame Biden has flinched

Has he though? It sounds like the plan was to do it covertly and Poland couldn't keep quiet. Just because the US is now trying to fix that mistake doesn't necessarily mean it still won't happen. Who knows what goes on out of the eye of the press.

This is Russian state media on Soviet involvement in Vietnam... eery parallels

How the Soviets fought against the Americans in Vietnam (PHOTOS)

Soviet servicemen had no small part to play in what was to become the most bitter defeat in U.S. history.

The Soviet Union could not stand by and watch indifferently as the Americans were carrying out their intervention in Indochina. In April 1965, just a month after the United States had started sustained aerial bombardment of North Vietnam, known as ‘Operation Rolling Thunder’, the first Soviet air defense missile systems and military specialists servicing them began arriving in the country, at the request of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Throughout the war, Moscow provided Hanoi with 95 S-75 air defense missile systems, over 500 airplanes, 120 helicopters, more than 5,000 anti-aircraft guns and 2,000 tanks. In addition, more than 10,000 Soviet military specialists were dispatched to Vietnam: from missile crews, pilots and signalmen to tank crews and doctors.

If the US got involved, or donated a lot of aircraft to Ukraine then I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near that 40mile convoy as you’d think that getting totally obliterated would be high on the list of to-do’s.

A few dozen us top of the line drones would turn it into an inferno, they don’t even need migs.

Where are the Russians stealth aircraft  or is that a ironic question. These Su's and Migs are about 30 40 years old aren't they?
