terrytini
Bruce has managed to get a good effort from the players in a hard fought win against a poor, out of form, Forest side. Im pretty sure as long as Kodja plays - effectively created both goals today - that paragraph will be applicable to quite a lot of games this season. I am also pretty sure doing so means he will remain our Manager , so we will get the stability wanted by some, and avoid the press saying nasty things about us. I think he will almost certainly improve on last seasons League position. Im equally as sure we will be in the Championship next season but Hey !! I'm going to celebrate the Win and look forward to Tuesday night.

Under Lambert, for long spells, we kept huge amounts of possession but lacked any cutting edge up top. That was basically Forest today. Getting the balance is where we need to be. This was a nervy game and, actually, I thought our players did the "wrong things" much more than the manager on this occasion? Certainly didn't see anything particularly alarming with our setup or formation etc. The amount of times the players gave the ball away in the second half meant we were just inviting pressure on ourselves - it wasn't, from what I saw, anything to do with us planning to sit deep. My point was that Forest had loads of possession but didn't create much at all. I don't see how them blasting the ball over from 40 yards is an indicator of the opposite, but I'm happy to be educated by yourself on why those shots are really meaningful. I still think Bruce picks the wrong starting line up and the wrong formation week in week out.
Farlz
Honestly I thought we played fine in the first half, second half we sat back like usual and that's when Forest had the ball more often. They weren't constantly coming at us though and were very wasteful so let them do that. It's a good win today and if Bruce follows this up with another 2 I'm sure we'll all agree it's been a very good month.

What would you change in the starting line up? The current line up is probably what I would pick at the moment. Maybe drop Whelan, perhaps? A lot of possession is pointless, like Forest today in their own half. It's what you do with the ball when you get it. We still need to improve but if we can adopt a formula that wins us games without needing to dominate then great. I'd like us dominate, naturally, but ultimately the result is what matters most. And if a lack of possession was a winning formula, a majority of successful teams would have used it. I can think of a handful, Leicester, Greece... and I am sure there are more, but it isn't the majority.

Popular Post TrentVilla Posted September 23, 2017 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted September 23, 2017 On the possession thing, possession on its own is pointless. A team can have possession for the sake of possession and/or have possession without it being meaningful in any way because they lack either the means or will to do anything g with it. So a possession stat is, quite frequently a meaningless stat. For instance Forest had a lot of the ball today but didn't do a great deal with it. That said, sides who can retain the ball and be effective with it will not only be better to watch but more often than not will be successful. I personally don't think we are good enough at retaining possession. I think we lack the ability have control of a game, to build anything remotely close to momentum in matches to put sides under pressure or to relieve pressure applied to us which is why we are so frequently under the cosh in 2nd halfs of games. I don't think we can go up playing the way we are, letting the other side have the ball as much as we do. Because we won't create enough chances to win enough games and because we aren't clinical enough with the chances we do create. That is why we scored scored 47 in 46 last season. We are also not strong enough defensively to see out games 1-0 while only having 30-40% of the ball, sooner or later we will crack. That is the problem with how we play, with are frequently low possession stats and in my opinion with Bruce and his approach to the game. I welcome the wins whenever they come but really, how we are playing now is no better, no more advanced, no more effective than 11 months ago when we went on a decent run after he arrived. It is why we were so dependent upon Kodjia last season and why we are seemingly so dependent upon his presence this season if not his goals as yet. Because with him we make more of the precious few chances we create. I welcome another win but I detest the way we play, I don't think it is modern enough or good enough to get us promoted or that we are good enough at playing this way to do so. Forest couldn't use their possession to hurt us, as soon as we come up against sides that can we will struggle and fall short again. 5
Popular Post sexbelowsound
Nobody is moaning about the result, that would be mental. People are showing concerns for the style of play and the lack of control we seem to have in games. Dodgyknees
On the season so far, I think we will struggle against: Wolves, Fulham, Reading, Boro (away), Forest (away), Birmingham (away), Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, Derby (away) and probably a few more.

Up until their goal (which was basically a massive slice of luck with a great finish) Forest did **** all. We were comfortable as anything. If we play like this the majority of the season, we're in the running for promotion. I think you're forgetting we did the square root of **** all either side of our goals as well. It's easy to say if we keep playing like this as if this is a sustainable method if getting results. We bumbled over the line. There's no way we can do that enough times during the season to get us promoted...as we brilliantly demonstrated last season.
