brommy
An announcement cancelling the expansion closely followed by announcement confirming the next step on the way to station expansion. Something is very weird here!
villarule123 Posted December 21, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted December 21, 2023 Are the club going to put out an official statement on this or what? Would be nice to know exactly what is going on.
fightoffyour Posted December 21, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted December 21, 2023 Work could still start at the end of next season if we wanted. Wait and see now but the station, if it goes through, is a positive either way.

Something is very weird here! It's all very odd. Announce a new investment partner specialising in financing capital projects, then cancel the expansion project a few days later. Club president hinting to fans that they can't spend £100m on players AND a new stand.
Popular Post Captain_Townsend
I am still gutted about the statement Heck made about not going ahead. I honestly feel that cancellation of the new stand puts a glass ceiling on where we go over the next decade. We are ready now, just do it and keep up with our peer clubs. JAMAICAN-VILLAN
Could be totally wrong, but i'm starting to get a feeling that something more significant than first anticipated is on the way.
Captain_Townsend
The problem with big plans is they can go wrong. Wars, pandemics, God knows. We had a great plan that was achievable and would have improved things and if the demand was there they had the option of doing the Witton Lane down the line. I just smell so much BS in what was said

sidcow Posted December 22, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted December 22, 2023 Why do people keep commenting on lack of demand for this and that it's uneconomical. Nowhere has Heck said this.

You'd think you'd run like 5/6 buses every 10 minutes for like an hour after the game to clear the people. And have them go all around the city I should be clear. The challenge I think with buses is you still have to get them from somewhere. To make a dent to 10000 fans you probably need to muster up 250 buses that aren't being used at any other point. Then you've got to get those 250 buses somewhere to wait. Then you've got to get them away from the ground at a reasonable pace for it to be worth it. So glad I dont work in the transport industry. Fixing this problem feels pretty impossible.

ThunderPower_14
"Adding too many seats too fast" could be related to logistics as opposed to demand.
Captain_Townsend
You could argue the Trinity redevelopment, the new Witton Lane and the new Holte were bigger projects logistically because the North Stand is actually at the end of the ground least constrained, and with most space. Not having to build over a road, buy houses, or figure out a tricky corner. See, using such vague language means we are going to speculate.

Nowhere has Heck said this. It was kind of implying this by his "adding too many seats too fast". It could be that he was just talking about what the transport situation could accommodate, but certainly sounds like a concern about having seats they can't fill. I guess after the warehouse is done they'll get an idea for reduced strain on public transport. But in reality none of us have a clue what he meant as he definitely didn't give the real reason. New location? New stadium same location? Different New north stand?... no one knows

Yep, a terrible Americanised franchise style rebrand. That's all Heck is focused on, that and selling merch and "experiences".
