Russia sees a Western power bloc encroaching into it's backyard, and powers tend not to like seeing other powers on their doorstep - it's why China doesn't like the idea of a unified Korea, they'll end up with a de facto US surrogate on their doorstep. Putin views the EU similarly. Encroaching into his turf, meddling within his sphere of influence, potentially turning heads to look West. Disruption in the EU is helpful to him, the EU divided is far less of a threat. He does not want a strong EU by any means. He'd be delighted if it didn't exist, and would bolster his grasping fingers for old USSR territories even more. Elements of the US would also like to see the EU divided for corporate benefit. The EU as an economic block hampers US interests through standards and other legislation. These US entities would love the EU if it opened itself up to more US types of standards and policies, so there is undoubtedly money going from these interests into the likes of nationalist figures in EU states.
