Fallon's an absolute tube and David Davies is a brexiteer maddo. I'm struggling to think of a Tory MP who would do the job who isn't an absolute whopper.

I know, I feel so sorry for them...

It's kind of refreshing, every single one of them would be awful

As for Ruth Davidson, she herself wouldn't accept being parachuted into a seat should one become available

And can anyone really see a lesbian and strong remainer being the leader of the Tory party?

Those eyes wouldn't just be swivelling they'd be swinging like a chandelier at Bridgend Con Club

It's astonishing that after seven years of being the largest party, their bench is so incredibly thin on talent.

It'll probably end up being Amber Rudd by default.

Had she not come within a whisker of losing her seat you'd probably be right.

But they're not going to make the next Prime Minister someone who is probably odds on to lose their seat at the next election as things stand.

Gloriously funny though it would be.

That definitely counts against her, but I'm not sure it rules her out when you consider a] that PM's tend to increase their majorities in their own constituencies (I know May didn't this time) and b] the paucity of other options.

But it sure as hell would be funny if she lost her seat that way, on that I do agree.

Nah Elmer Fudd is just Maybot v2.0 regardless of her majority. Another soulless automaton that doesn't react well to people

In other news, it turns out Dominic Raab would like an unpaid intern to help him out in London, opening letters from the plebs and so on. For four to six months!:

This Tory Minister Is Offering A Six-Month Unpaid Internship In Parliament

'A Conservative minister has been criticised for offering an unpaid internship in his office for up to half a year, months after a group of MPs said such opportunities should be properly paid or banned outright.

Dominic Raab, who joined the Ministry of Justice in Theresa May's recent reshuffle, is looking for a "gap year student or recent school leaver" to join his Westminster office three or four days a week, for four to six months.

The "volunteer position" would involve dealing with constituents' correspondence, helping paid staff with research, running "secretarial tasks", and "assisting with the work of other colleagues as required".'

The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish.

Yeah, you try that **** on. Arseholes.

This is true, although of those who have high visibility in the Tory party, she is the only one who appears to have a clue, what a state the Tories are in.

Oh yes, she seems the most switched on for sure, would need the very quick death of one of her newly elected Scottish MPs for it to happen in time to save the Tories... added bonus... the Tory Party would probably have a cataclysmic split as a result... even bigger bonus... the Daily Heil wouldn't know what to do with itself

The tories seem to be where labour were shortly after electing Corbyn as their leader, we all predicted a split then and everyone (bar a few socialists) thought it was the end of the labour party. Look at them now.

All the conservatives need to do is to go for someone who is younger with modern views on gender, money and the sort of shift that labour have done under Corbyn. People are tired of the conservatives saying "we're not that bad, we did detoxification!" when in fact they are much worse than Thatcher's conservatives. The only thing that is certain with them at the moment is that they are all over the place - they need uniting under one, strong, well worded leader. They also need to take their PR team out behind the barn if you ask me - they seem to have had the worst run of public opinion for any party since Brown fumbled all over the place.

Anyhow, let's not count our chickens yet. I'm sure the conservatives will come back strong just like labour have. We can't expect 42% of our political capital to be crap forever.

I agree, with a new leader who believes in lots of things that the Conservative party doesn't currently and a whole lot of new policies that are different to the ones they believe in at the moment and have believed in since the 70's, there's every chance the Tories will be back - what they need I think is the kind of copycat politics that worked so well for Labour in the 90's - by advocating all of the things they hate and ignoring every principle they have, there's every chance they could recapture the popular vote.

Zing

Hammond just said the foundations of the British economy are strong and cites strong job figures.

He jokes that the numbers are great even if you only include George Osborne once.

from the rest of his speech it's clear May  doesn't have long left , I think
