Stoke trying to play slick, passing football but they've only got about 5 players truly capable of it so the ones who need an extra touch are slowing them down. They'll need to improve that or change the style up a bit.

Depends what their ambitions are. They have enough to finish top 10.

Generally agree though and whilst Charlie Adam is a football's best friend at times, he really is fat and slow. And fat.

It was more to suggest that they should make the most of the ones who are comfortable on the ball, like the ex Barça lads, Adam, even Glen Johnson, but not necessarily Diouf and Walters etc.  It looked like they were expecting all of them to be able to pass first time or with one touch to control and they're not all capable of that.

Glenn Whelan  is the Irish Xavi

Yes but like Whelan you're Irish so I'll take that with a pinch of salt ;)

haha while he is hardly brilliant he gets a lot of unfair stick in my opinion more so from the Irish press

you dont play 200 games for a mid-table Premier League team unless your at least decent. He is probably their Premier League appearance record holder be him or Shawcross

How do Stoke come 9th season after season with players like Glenn Whelan in their starting 11?

They just have a really solid defensive unit which gets them clean sheets and wins, even yesterday without Shawcross who's a massive loss for them they rarely looked like conceding.

Also I think upfront they have a good array of attackers all offering something different....

Walters with his workrate and occasional goals.

Diouf...powerful and scored I think 11 prem goals last season.

Crouch is always good as a sub for last 20 minutes...get crosses in and he can still nick goals.

Arnatouvic...wildly inconsistant but every 5th game he looks world class.

Afellay...have to see how he does but could do a Bojan.

Bojan...was in brilliant form before his injury, see if he can get back to that.

Aside from Crouch, most of those were freebies or 2-3m.
