Danwichmann
Fair play to Lerner, he's held his hands up and admitted it's not working. That's not an easy thing to do for a high profile businessman with a lot of different interests. I think we're all quick to forget the good things he has done as well, improving the infrastructure of the club and investment in Bodymoor and The Holte Pub are significant for me. And there have been many many worse chairman / owners in the Premier League while we've had Randy. We do need something new, but I will miss Lerner. It's similar to Lambert going for me, a reluctant but necessary break up.

Popular Post bobzy
We really need to get rid of this guy this summer. A bit late to tell us you should have sold up years ago. It's been clear for years he'd lost interest in us and that there was no other plan than keep costs low and stay in the league. Terrible owner. I think he was more naive, and certainly in the early years. I completely blame him (he blames himself!) for the financial mess we got into and, subsequently, the past few seasons but he didn't just throw more money at it for the sake of it. If we got relegated, the club would've been up shit creek for sure. However, by keeping costs low and battling for survival, he's actually ensured the longevity of the club. Many, many fans were calling out for cash to be thrown at the problem - it could've been disastrous. The guy has his heart in the right place and cares about the club. He messed up, but not to the detriment of the football club (Leeds, Portsmouth, Blackpool, Southampton etc) in the long term. The corrective measures taken have been necessary and well executed. There are far worse owners out there.
Danwichmann
I think he's genuinely got the clubs best interests at heart. Even he admits that he hasn't got it right nearly often enough, but there a plenty of chairman out there who simply don't care about the club so I'll miss that. He normally stays in the background, he's very understated and I'll miss that. And I think the club has generally been run "the right way". We're not shouty, flashy and controversial, we seem to have some ethics and are rarely implicated in scandals. That's important for me. Of course we need more investment and someone who can make better football decisions and I hope we get that, but I'll hold very little against Lerner once he goes (as long as he sells us wisely, which I believe he will.)
Popular Post CrackpotForeigner
We should judge him by who he sells to. After spending 200 million of his own money and seeing "Lerner Out" banners held up by fans, you'd forgive him for flogging the club to the first half broke loan shark with a leveraged buyout deal. It's really to his great credit that he probably isn't going to do such a thing.

That is half the story and the rest is a nightmare - caused by his own doing - not the fans who have suffered.
Richard
To be fair to Lerner, and I have not looked positively on anything he has done since the year before MON left the club, he at least accepts the criticism

The thing is that it's not about who your owner actually is, but how much money they're willing to throw at their team. If he chucked more money at the problem and we finished 10th rather than 16th in the last 4 seasons, people would be far more forgiving of Lerner - despite Aston Villa being in a far worse financial state. People are actually calling for an oil baron to be our next owner. It's a huge shame. Edited May 27, 2015 by bobzy
PaulC
Lerner to me has always behaved with great dignity. Its hard not to like him. Complete opposite of Mike Ashley. In terms of wealth he's not in the big league and money was wasted, the wage bill got out of control, for which he is partly to blame or was just too generous.
Oaks
Can I just add a comment on the Tom Fax love in....he game Lambert a 4 year contract essensually because of 3 wins in 4 games, let him run amok without an assistant or decent coaching staff for months, and sacked Lambert just in time. dudevillaisnice
You do wonder what would happen with Tom Fox if we were taken over. Lerner pretty adamant Fox runs the club on a day to day basis and that Sherwood was a Fox appointment. Doesn't make any assurances for him either but then he couldn't really, it's why maybe Sherwood would also be put at risk.

Jareth
Not claiming to be ITK but my mate works close to VP and has seen a group of chinese businessmen going in twice this week, the same group That's a bit racialist saying all chinese businessmen look the same. Were they accompanied by a queer lookin' one, and his dog wearing x2 apple watches? Please say yes.

7392craig
There have been many ups and downs in Lerners time here. We all know things could have been worse, and that it shouldn't necessarily be 100% credited to him that these bad scenarios never happened. But he has certainly tried, and as it has been pointed out, we should judge him finally on who he chooses to sell to. By reading the interview with the times, it does seem to suggest that he's looking for a decent buyer as apposed to the first guy who shows the money. Fingers crossed things are on the up ✌️
