Why do people seem to think it will be different this year? We've subsequently come to learn that Lambert made bids for Dusan Tadić and Daley Blind in January 2013, so that's not quite true. Where did you hear that? I think the fact that those bids, or more likely just inquiries, failed proves the point. News to me. Even if we equired on the costs of these players it's not the same as bidding on them. I'm fairly certain we didn't have the budget for either of those two in Jan (fee or wages) so I'm a little sceptical about our supposed bids for them. The deal in place for Blind was confirmed a couple of months ago by Marc Overmars - DoF at Ajax.The Dutchman also suggested that Blind was not always as highly valued by fans, revealing that he was recently almost sold to Aston Villa. Clearly there was more money available than Lambert actually spent in the end though. We wouldn't have even bothered to enquire for Tadić in the first place if we weren't prepared to pay something [relatively] substantial. The Blind deal sounds like it reached a more advanced stage. Overmars describes the offer on the table as a "nice sum". The fee wasn't an issue with that one, they just decided against selling him in the end, which has since proved to be a wise decision.
