TreeVillan Posted July 15, 2013 Share Posted July 15, 2013 Funny how the ITK's didn't know about Guzan's deal along with not knowing about Benteke handing in a transfer request, in fact they were all saying he was going to sign a new deal They are supposed to be Spurs ITKs so it's unsurprising that they wouldn't know about the goings on at Aston Villa. Having said that, I would be very surprised if they had any clue about the goings on at Spurs either... I think he was referring to the villa ITKs, nobody is ITK. I know a lot of you disagree with that, but you can't say we didn't get value for the money we spent on him last year. He basically kept us up and then we sell him for over £20 million. That is good business, even if I would have preferred to hear him say "I love Villa and want to play for the club for as long as I'm, allowed", which isn't going to happen. £20m-£22m would be good for a player like Milner, Downing or Young. But Benteke is only 22, has scored buckets of goals in his first season in the Prem and has great all-round ability. He has the potential to be a World Class player. He could be a 1 season wonder (though unlikely), but he could also be a massive player. I'd imagine we'd all feel pretty smalltime if we sold him for £22m, and then Spurs sold him to Real Madrid for £65m 2 years later. (All hypotheticals obviously, but you get my point). However, I'm pretty sure far fewer people would have been happy with this price at the end of the season. I think people are forgetting how good he is, and how quickly he's improving. Many people were claiming we'd never get anywhere near £20mil for him. By asking for a transfer,Benteke has relinquished a few million so £25 mil is more or less what the club would have received from a £30mil fee without the transfer request. I really liked Aston Villa last season with what they were doing, a young exciting squad and manager, playing attractive football for large parts... The stuff I've read on here is nothing short of embarrassing for a supposed 'football fan'. I tried to refrain from signing up but it's so hard to bite my tongue with the amount of absolute rubbish being spouted here at times. Normally you find on a fans forum there will be a delusional minority but the sensible minority will put them in their place. Example being, Spurs fan 1: We're going to win the league this year. Spurs fan 2,3,4: Don't be ridiculous we will do well to challenge for top 4. Sadly this isn't the case on here, delusion seems to manifest and be encouraged. It's not so much the wild valuations you're throwing on Benteke I have a problem with; it's more so the outright outrageous comments how we aren't CURRENTLY a lot more successful and bigger than you. I can't believe I read a few pages back that the only player someone would take from our team was Bale, absolutely laughable and quite frankly embarrassing. Surely if you know football you'd recognise Lloris, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Siggy, Holtby to name a few would walk into your team? I understand 'rose tinted' glasses syndrome but some of you fans on here are taking it to the next level... Spurs a 'sideways' step from Villa? What the same Spurs who have been in the top 5 the last 4 season running? I'm disappointed as a general football fan to not have read more than one or two SENSIBLE comments regarding Spurs as a club and the whole situation. All in all, I know it's frustrating losing a player and that's football; we'll no doubt have the same with Bale next season but then we'll recognise Madrid have a bigger allure and stature, something you seem to struggle with. Rant over, bring on the incoherent, poor rebuttals... Unless there is any sane fans on here? In regards to the Benteke move, I think we all thought Benteke would be going to a champions league club, and to be fair you aren't a champions league club. Understandable about the CL aspect but who's to say Chelsea/Arsenal are in for him aside from paper talk? Chelsea have Lukaku who is of similar ilk and Arsenal seem to be after a different type of striker a la Suarez/Rooney-esque. We could still get a CL club in for him ie ci£eh or elsewhere in Europe. If he's going I would prefer he goes abroad - he might do our defense some damage if we have to play against him. I have seen posts referring to the fact that he actually wants to go to spurs ? Yes because Villa and Benteke are of the exact same stature in the footballing world. One is Spain's all time leading goalscorer who has played for one of the worlds biggest clubs and another is a young, relatively raw striker who has (I'll concede) a very impressive debut season in the PL. ---- As said before, it's tough as Benteke is your prized asset but you're being delusional if you think he wouldn't fancy a move to Spurs. Imagine a Chelsea fan coming on a Spurs board (a place for people to chat and vent about the team they love, not to be fair, reasonable, or balanced about the teams they don't!!!) a couple of seasons back and telling us how we're all delusional, that Modric of course wants to move to them, to think that he could further his career at Spurs was insanity, and that we shouldn't dare to compare ourselves in success or stature to the mighty Chelsea!!! We'd have **** him out of there in no time. The real irony being that at least in the case of Chelsea they have actually won some stuff, where as the pinnacle for us in modern times (so far) has been a couple of 4th places, and a fast receding CC win!
