Genie
Is this 15 years actual jail time, or like his other sentence where he can do 1/6 of it and then get house arrest?

choffer Posted July 6, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted July 6, 2016 6 Years according to the beeb. Quote South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. He was taken immediately to jail. The prosecution and defence can appeal. The verdict comes after his initial five-year conviction for manslaughter was changed to murder last December after the prosecution appealed. BOF Posted July 6, 2016 Moderator Share Posted July 6, 2016 At what point do appeals run out, or could you happily punctuate your 6 year stay with regular fun appeals processes just for shits and giggles?

TrentVilla Posted July 6, 2016 Author Moderator Share Posted July 6, 2016 I'm amazed how many international law experts who specialise in South African murder trials spend their days lurking in VT off topic.

VILLAMARV
Quote Oscar Pistorius jail term for killing Reeva Steenkamp more than doubled A South African court has increased Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius's jail sentence for killing his girlfriend to 13 years and five months. Prosecutors had argued that the six-year term for murdering Reeva Steenkamp was "shockingly light". A spokesman for Ms Steenkamp's family said the ruling "verified there was justice". Pistorius claimed he shot dead Ms Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013 after mistaking her for a burglar. The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein has now given him the minimum 15 years prescribed for murder in South Africa, less time already served. The lower court had justified the six-year sentence by citing mitigating circumstances such as rehabilitation and remorse. It said they outweighed aggravating factors such as his failure to fire a warning shot. The athlete was not in court to hear the decision. He was initially given a five-year term for manslaughter in 2014, but was found guilty of murder on appeal in 2015. Pistorius shot Ms Steenkamp four times through a locked toilet door at his home in the capital Pretoria. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-42107701
AVFCDAN
Regardless of whether he intentionally killed her or not his case has been handled so badly its untrue. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't see it out to be fair.
