January 2013 Transfer Talk

Not really sure why this thread remains open

Very, Very good point. Could it not be left open but renamed "DREAM ON VILLA FANS, DREAM ON" ?

At this point though unless we bring a fee in by offloading someone, Lambert aint got a penny to spend. That much is obvious.

If it's true that Bent, Given, Nzogbia, Ireland, Agbonlahor and Hutton have no relegation release clauses in their massive contracts (Faulkner's so brilliant isn't he)  then anyone interested in them for real would be mad not to wait until the summer when relegated or not they will be available cheaper. If we go down they'll all be available for peanuts. Surely the reason they are all looking so down when anyone mentions transfers is they know that our rivals hold all the cards - Lambert must be well aware that no-one wants to pay for any of them - maybe when he came in he thought he could have forced warnock and hutton out by now and that he could have offloaded Bent, Given and Ireland for decent money and that he could have made himself some money to play with, maybe not - I'm very much guessing at that. If we could get £15 - 17m for Bent right now do you not think Lambert would be biting their arms off? Rumours suggest teams have put cheeky offers of around £7 - 8m for him, just to test our resolve.

We all know we're in this mess thanks to Lerner, Faulkner, MON, Houllier and McMuppet. Seems Lamberts mistake was to blow all his season's budget before September and gambling on another team giving us some money to play with in January.

What did Houllier and Mcleish do? Bent saved us from relegation and we probably would've been a lot higher up the table had he not got injured against Wigan last year. Fair enough, McLeish bought Hutton but he wasn't exactly backed in the transfer market, something that caused further outrage towards the General!

That's not fair on Faulkner,  it was MON that was the bad negotiator ;)

Sky Sports Transfer Clockwatch:

Sunderland have been backed into 2/1 favourites to bring Darren Bent back to the Stadium of Light this month. Regional rivals Newcastle are no5/2, while Fulham have also drifted out to 3/1.

Warnock confirmed loaned to Leeds, should free up alot of wages for someone. If there ever was a time for signing someone for those wages it would be now.

Where is this confirmed?

Please dont say Talksport.

Sending Alan Hutton to Mallorca/Magaluf sounds like a great idea for a reality tv-show.

Maybe we can pitch it to Channel 5 and get some money?

I think Alan Hutton will be in the big brother house inside 5 years

Not really sure why this thread remains open

It remains open so that you can champion your cause for bringing Liam Trotter to the club.

Not really sure why people post in this thread if they think it's pointless. That just means you think it's pointless and still spend your time looking through it, confirming that you have nothing better to do, surely?

when you break it down though you can see why Lerner is utterly sick of ploughing large sums of cash into the club only for manager's to repeatedly buy players on significant wages who don't do the job expected or don't get played for whatever reason and can't be shifted.

He gave Lambert over 20 mil and we somehow managed to go even further backwards as a result, even if we can see that some of those signings have potential - and Benteke for one looks very good.

But the policy to promote Clark and Baker - and sign Bennett and Lowton is the reason we are in this mess. Plus an over reliance on Bannan who doesn't offer much presence or leadership in midfield (plus terrible set piece taking), Delph who is battling to overcome years of injury and poor form, Westwood who is only just stepping up to this level and needs some experience around him.

Lambert gambled on KEA as the holding/marauding midfielder we needed in Petrov's absence and that gamble failed, although i do think he will get better - but we will be relegated before then.

It feels like the worse our performances and results the more determined Lerner has been not to plough more cash in, you'd have thought it would be the opposite but I guess he knows sacking Lambert would be pointless and relegation inevitable.

Loans are the only relegation proof option we have but no idea who on earth we could sign to save us on that basis, there is never really a surplus of experience good holding midfielders or defenders around that a club would loan to us. Plus any decent ones that are surplus would be at a big club with a big squad and therefore be on massive wages.

Errr, Jean Il Makoun? Houllier bought him, McMuppet loaned him out so he lost his work permit and is now just sat there leaching money from us to play for someone else. McMuppet (with the benefit of hindsight) spent approx £17m loaning Jenas and signing Hutton, Given and Nzogbia to big, long contracts with no relegation release clauses. I dont think any of them have proved good buys. Personally I'm so glad the club didnt give him the downing money to play with too or god knows what sort of mess we'd be in.

Add the fact that the club have spent a reported £15m over the last 3 years paying off MON's unfair dismissal case, paying off Houllier and McAllister, paying small heath for McMuppet - then paying him and Grant off to leave and finally compensating Delia for nicking their manager.

That £15m would have been nice sat in the war chest no?

He has still pumped in a quarter of a billion pounds of his own money into the club. A lot of it might have been spent poorly but it is a lot more money than Ellis ever put in.

Correction.

He has loaned half a billion pounds from a trust fund, whos members we know nothing about, and we have to repay it with "low" interest on top. But dont let facts get in the way of defending the clueless fool.
