Si.
Made a bid according to SSN. Quote Sky Sports understands Aston Villa have made a bid for Middlesbrough defender Joe Bennett. The 22-year-old is a graduate of Boro's famed academy and has made over 90 appearances for the club since his debut in 2009. He has emerged as the club's first-choice left-back and is part of the England Under-21 set-up. A number of clubs have been tracking his progress in recent months and, after failing to prise Aaron Cresswell away from Ipswich Town, Villa boss Paul Lambert has turned his attention to Bennett. Bennett has not played this season due to injury but he is on the brink of returning and was set to be involved again this week. However, Villa have now made a bid and are hopeful of completing a deal with Boro, who have been using summer signing George Friend at left-back during their opening matches of the season. clicky

villan-scott Posted August 28, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted August 28, 2012 More highly rated than Cresswell, I think he was first choice but Jewell went running to the press about a question we asked.
KjParton
I think he was first choice from the beginning over Cresswell
AVFCforever1991
He's better than Cresswell anyway.
LondonLax
More highly rated than Cresswell, I think he was first choice but Jewell went running to the press about a question we asked. Well to be fair Jewel looks like he has held on to his player of the season last season so you can't blame him really.

VillaGoMarching
The kid has games under his belt, he'll do for me, My only concern about our own crop of youngsters is that collectively you'd struggle to reach 100 Apps, while Lowton and Bennett have both played alot of games for relatively young players. Hereford-Villan
I asked James Nursery tonight if he had any info about this. I had a direct message reply with him saying that he thinks it'll be done by Friday. Let's hope so as we are desperate for a lb
Hereford-Villan
Nursery seems pretty much spot on for everything villa
LondonLax
I'd say we were quoted big money for Cresswell but have had more encouragement from Middlesbrough for Bennett. Lets get him in.
CI
Another potential signing I've never seen play. This is refreshing. Bring it on !!
Big_John_10
I'm for this signing but it worries me sightly how young our back 4 is going go be. I'm not sure thats the right approach for a team that will probably be concerned about relegation.
omariqy
don't forget we have Dunne coming back and Vlaar is experienced.
AvfcTheObsession
Dunne is a while off being back yet though and Vlaar is not PL experienced. Do rate this kid but I'm also worried about a backline of Bennett-Baker-Vlaar-Lowton lacking age and PL experience.
Gillz
Would be a good signing and with Richardson potentially off to Fulham we could sell Warnock off to MON. Would solve our LB situation quite nicely!
