Popular Post NurembergVillan Posted January 18, 2014 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2014 He's starting to become the Mellberg replacement we'd all hoped for. I think he's perhaps another one in the line of McGrath and Laursen who, if they weren't so injury prone, would be playing for someone far better than us. I'm glad we've got him.

And to think we got him for what, £3m? Great signing indeed, he tweeted that he thinks we should have got the win today - that is the kind of mentality we need, especially from the older players. Popular Post GENTLEMAN
This guy deserves a place at the World Cup. Quality player and great captain. Edited January 19, 2014 by GENTLEMAN
Supervillan78
Please don't injured again Ron! We are so much better with him at the back.
Avfc96
He's the player as some have alluded to is the defender we have missed since Laursen's knee gave up on him. We look a much much better team with him in the back four.
djdabush
The guy is an absolute monster. A few people should be embarrassed writing him off after an injury plagued season.
Morpheus
Pound for pound Lambert's best signing.
Popular Post Spoony
£3m for Vlaar. £4m for Okore. £5.6m for Mellberg. £3m for Laursen. It's like we go around stealing Northern European defenders.
Mantis
It saddens me that we missed out on gems like him from the continent in favour of signings like Curtis Davies for £10m.
samjp26
He'll be 29 next month which is the only bad thing. Hopefully he can perform well for then next 2 or 3 seasons, he will be good tutor for Okore and Clark who can then take over as our new partnership hopefully! NurembergVillan Posted January 19, 2014 Moderator Share Posted January 19, 2014 £3m for Vlaar. £4m for Okore. £5.6m for Mellberg. £3m for Laursen. It's like we go around stealing Northern European defenders. I liked your post, but being pedantic Vlaar isn't Northern European. Isn't Amsterdam on the same latitude as Coventry? I was critical of him last year but he's really stepped up this time. Has helped that Clark has been better too but he's the real deal.

NurembergVillan Posted January 19, 2014 Moderator Share Posted January 19, 2014 UK is Western Europe. Same as France, Germany, and, erm, the Netherlands.
Panto_Villan
UK is Western Europe. Same as France, Germany, and, erm, the Netherlands. It is possible to be both in Western Europe and Northern Europe at the same time (if you look at a map, the UK is in the north-west of Europe). Panto_Villan
Also, Vlaar is class and I'm glad the people writing him off have either gone quiet or stopped doing so. Most of our horrendous runs of form have occurred when he's been injured and I don't think that's a co-incidence.

abdomlahor
Still don't think he's on the same level as Mellberg or Laursen, but if he continues his current form I may be forced to reconsider.
