Jan transfer window - rumours, speculation & suggestions

Not quite sure what some fans are trying to say here.

Should Martin just go out and sign players for the sake of it or should Mr Lerner pay way over the odds to sign players just because he is a billionaire.

If we get players in they will be the right players at the right price, if we dont we wait till the summer.

If we were still under Ellis our work this transfer window would be done.

Yes, we want the right players at the right price.

I think the comments are just impatience, and high expectations, especially after years of being held back by that footling clearing in the woods.

I can understand the impatience, but I think that some of the expressions of it, especially when they sound like doubt in the motives or capability of the new lot, are misplaced and premature. Give them time.

It's a game of chess at the moment, nobody wants to make the wrong move by selling before having a replacement lined up.

As the clock ticks down things will happen.

Hit the nail on the head. A city expert on sky sports said this would be the busiest and most expensive transfer window so far, it just needs everyone to have their plans in place. So Bent won't leave Charlton til they get players lined up, which means that Baros won't leave til say Defoe comes in, then Spurs won't let Defoe go til say Young goes there, and Smith won;t leave Man U til Hargrevaves joins etc.

It's just who will get the ball rolling to take it into frenzy. And someone will.

Personally I think it needs a benchmark - for everyone to meaure againt. Say Young from Watford went for £5m, that would set the standard - bent could then be valued at £9m - on the other hand if young went for 7.5m - the value of Bent would be up to £12 - £13m.

The fact that we bid for readings Doyle *May* suggest - that O Neils top targets - aren't available ....if this is the case expect a Nugent link before the end of the week !

Not all clubs need players as much as Villa,

Not all clubs want to sell their best players.

If you'd be happy bringing in the sort of players fulham and wigan have then i'm sure we could have signed about 5 players by now

Getting quality players isn't an easy task and takes time.

Does it really matter if we pay 'too much' for a player?

Would you really care if Randy Lerner spent a couple of extra million quid to get a player that MON said we really need? They're business men and if they think that they'll get value for money from those extra couple of million, they'll do it. As long as they don't pass on the extra by excessively increasing ticket prices, it's no skin off my nose.

Not all clubs want to sell

Mangers want to keep their players

Clubs wants players before selling others.

Excuses.

Sorry mate thats just ridiculous. So you really believe that Randy and MON can

a)Force clubs to sell players

b)Persuade managers to sell their best players

c)Source players for other clubs so that they will sell their better players to Villa.

Cloud.

Cuckoo.

Land.

Yes, because we'll end up like Chelsea who have to pay over the top for every player they want as other clubs know they've got loads and loads of cash.

And that's no way to run a football club in the long term, imo.
