Is there any way to bet on people that won't become manager? I want to put some money on McCleish not becoming manager being that he is favourite to do so.

Yes, goto betfair and click on the red box next to Mcleish's nameThe red box is betting he will not become manager - this is called laying Mcleish (which someone else found rather amusing :)), the blue one is backing him to become manager.

I've already got £150 on him not becoming manager. The odds right now are amazingly good.

Or the other way of doing it is through your normal bookie, and back every manager other than the one or two you think won't get a job. This is much more difficult though because of the huge number of options and you have to bet different amounts on different managers depending on the odds...! Stick with BetFair.

Some of the top foreign coaches mentioned on here is pointless, they will not come to a non CL side, McLeish is very unlikely.

Realistcally we are left with Moyes,Hughes & Maybe Coyle.

After Martinez, i doubt very much we will move for Coyle. To similar, and with our problems, it has to be somebody whom the squad will look up to, and hit the ground running....

I dont think we will make an appointment that does not meet the mass approval of the clubs fan base. Randy will not want to make the same error as we did with Houllier....

This is a big club, so too is the expectations and the pressure.....

Its Hughes, has to be.

I hope youre right. I really think the loyalty thing is an over complication - get the manager in first - worry about him leaving if and when that happens

My choices are in order:

1. frank rijkaard

2. Rafa

3. Carlo just cause I think he won't come

mate no offence but its no wonder your so unhappy with the state of our club at the moment if these are your expectations of the board when it comes to getting a new manager

lower them for your own sanity

Why people tell me how great our club is and now people say lower ur expectations lol we are great we should aim for great things Frank rijkaard could do that at our club

unfortunately these champions league winning managers don't own a pair of claret and blue tinted spectacles

What can we do to attract the best to our club what makes them not want to

Im not sure I follow 100% POB!

Moyes is yet to prove he is capable of taking us where we want to be!!

I dont want consistent top 8 finishes!! I want trophies!! Now of course, I have to be realistic and acknowledge the chances of us dominating silverware are slim - But that doesnt mean I have to want a manager who is only a proven top 8 manager!

Now of course, Martinez would not guarantee trophies either and would prove a bigger risk than Moyes. But, theres an uncertainty with Martinez of just how much potential he really has - He could be a real gem!! He might not be. We kinda know with Moyes what were going to get and I suppose its whether you want the safe option, or the risky unknown 1.

I would also argue your point regarding Wigan dropping down since Martinez came in. They lost a lot of there best players and havent actually finished (pointswise) much lower than before. The leagues improved for me - Its a lot closer between 7th or so - 20th imo and I think Everton have also suffered from this as they appear to be heading baclwards too.

We dont agree on a lot POB, but you always argue your point well!

Our debate is in the background to the real one and the articulate astonvilla10 ;)

I get what you're saying, basically, we might as well go with the unknown because potentially Martinez could be something great but so could Moyes. Don't forget, Moyes has achieved top 7/8 finish regularly BUT without proper backing, the reason Everton seem to struggle is because of their small squad and their lack of depth and quality. With more money to spend at Villa, I believe if he can finish 7th/8th with very little money, then with a fair sum of money, I.e. £20-25 million net in a summer for 2/3 years (which I think is realistic) then he could push us on. At worst with Moyes, we know we are going to finish 7th/8th IMO but just because he hasn't finished higher up in last couple years, doesn't mean that with extra funding he can't go and do that. It's easy to forget his net spend, I doubt exceeds £20-30 million in his 8 years at Everton, maybe even lower than that. So make that £60 million net spend over 3 years at Villa and I like to think that he could achieve something here ....

The worrying thing for me about Astonvilla 10 is that hes agreed with a number of my posts

Well Ive gone against my principles (that I set out about an hour ago :D ) and smashed 15 bones on Moyes at 9/2!! Houlliers health issues have cost me a fortune!

If he does get it, Il obviously support him and hope your optimisms are correct. I unfortunately I dont share them.

Yeh I am...... We will see end of august we would give rafa 30 million even after youngs transfer would be more than half that shows what we have available so no I am going by what I hear n I will wait n see august 30

I have absolutely no idea what you are going on about. It is however, probably somehow slating one of the best clubs and boards in the world.

Wind-up bluenoses aren't welcome here. Go crawl back under your rock.

I don't think he's a bluenose mate, just genuinely thick. Which in that case, 'could' make him a bluenose.

The plot thickens...

Or just maybe somebody very young? :winkold:

Yeh young I am but you guys are **** old farts who believe your own shit go out get laid live your life

Ah, the wonders of social networking. Does anyone remember the halcyon days before the world wide web was invented? Checking teletext at 8 am before going to work to see what was being said about Villa, and then checking again a few days later when another bit of gossip may have been added.

It was relatively laid back and stress free, and the place to discuss Ellis's or Bendall's latest antics was down the pub with your mates.

If McLeish came I'd be very disappointed. Yes he won the CC with them last season but he still got relegated. Plus he's a bellend.

With Hughes and Benitez being available I would be mortified if McLeish was even being considered.

Plus there's no way i'd want Randy to give them any money for anything other than Dann or Foster.

There was a **** idiot on the Talksport phone in yesterday saying Villa should appoint Van Basten!

Probably the same idiots who think we could attract Van Gaal.

Get a **** grip.

I would have sounded out van Gaal just in case though wouldn't you?

No.

It'd be as ridiculous as sounding out Mourinho if he was out of work.

You've got to understand our level, and also the level they operate at (and the wages they command for doing so). It's not a defeatest attitude, it's just common sense. We wouldn't be trying to sign Ronaldo if he was up for sale would we ?. Because we KNOW we're not in that bracket. It's exactly the same scenario.

This is why some Villa supporters make us all look deluded prtas when they call in phone in shows and talk bloody nonsense

And yet we approached Ancelotti....? I understand our level well enough and I dont subscribe to the 'why aren't they queing up' mindset. However you may as well ask everyone if you ask Ancelotti. Is the jump from Carlo to Aloysius that great ....dont think so. Dont get me wrong van Gaal is one of the greats but at 59 he may like a go the prem. He is quite difficult though and doesnt suffer from self doubt so I'm not sure he's Randy's man. By the way I dont rate the great translator as a man or manager.

Bit young for the pub afterwards at that time, but it certainly made for excitement when there was some actual news!! Now when it gets confirmed its just :|

Club call page 502, - bout £1.50 a min

'todays main story - villa show interest in Brazilian world cup winning star' - but first - (for the next 45 mins), an update an Aston Villas under 11s injury woes!!

I think all this has been a smoke screen...!

Its always been Hughes Villa until July 1st so why not try to see who else you can get its a win win situation.

It will not be Moyes.

It Will not be Coyle.

It will be Hughes its so obvious...!

You can have some real good fun using the flutuating odds on the Villa Manager market on Betfair. By laying managers at low odds and backing them again for less money at higher odds you can make guarenteed profit as well as your favorites making you more money if they were to happen. I'm sure someone earlier said they were due £150 regardless of who was made manager by doing this!

So I missed the last 40 pages after last nights TS Twitter feed and Villa_Insider both claiming Moyes was to be sorted today.

What's the crack with that? Still presume nobody is any the wiser?

Correct.

Though Mcleish is now favorite on the bookies, with no information in the public domain to explain why. I personally feel it is because of the twitter feed regarding the "ginger scotsman".

Free money on BetFair if you wish to lay Mcleish.

Not sure how Randy could be anti-Hughes on principle yet be happy to entertain Coyle who screwed Burnley over mid-season getting them relegated and then would be hopping out on Bolton after just 18 months! Seems just as mercenary to me.

IMO were intersted - but its a long way from being done. - IT might have been quicker to wait for GH to make a full recovery the way we are going.

Yup, though next manager books are slow moving. Horse racing or in-play football is much more exciting.

What you are talking about is "arbitrage" - an age old, minimum risk way of gambling (investing).
