Randy has plenty of money believe me. He just wants to give it to the right manager. It was not about Money with Benitez, it was an issue with the contact he wanted, I think he wanted a rolling contract, which Randy was never going to agree to.

When MM says it's between 2 people does he mean that only 2 people know or it's between 2 managers?

I think he means it's just between Lerner and Faulkner and there are no genuine ITK's.

Unless the leaks come from those close to a manager we have approached.

Yeh I am...... We will see end of august we would give rafa 30 million even after youngs transfer would be more than half that shows what we have available so no I am going by what I hear n I will wait n see august 30

I have absolutely no idea what you are going on about. It is however, probably somehow slating one of the best clubs and boards in the world.

Wind-up bluenoses aren't welcome here. Go crawl back under your rock.

I don't think he's a bluenose mate, just genuinely thick. Which in that case, 'could' make him a bluenose.

The plot thickens...

You guys need to get a life

There was a **** idiot on the Talksport phone in yesterday saying Villa should appoint Van Basten!

Probably the same idiots who think we could attract Van Gaal.

Get a **** grip.

I would have sounded out van Gaal just in case though wouldn't you?

No.

It'd be as ridiculous as sounding out Mourinho if he was out of work.

You've got to understand our level, and also the level they operate at (and the wages they command for doing so). It's not a defeatest attitude, it's just common sense. We wouldn't be trying to sign Ronaldo if he was up for sale would we ?. Because we KNOW we're not in that bracket. It's exactly the same scenario.

This is why some Villa supporters make us all look deluded prtas when they call in phone in shows and talk bloody nonsense

We arent going to appoint mcleish, he wont have even been considered im so sure of that. Have some faith in randy and the board ffs.

100% this.

Anyone who has bet on Mcleish, you may as well put your money down the drain, not a chance. Probably come to light through bullshit ITK's

Please do not mention this again on this forum!

McLeish is a big no no for me. I would probably take Martinez over him.

If its not Hughes, and its true that we are actually looking at people like Mcleish, then i am getting pretty worried about the clubs future.

At the moment, its fun watching the media guess and looking fools. But by god, we had better get this right, because there is a lot of frustration and doubt building under the surface.

I honestly do think its Hughes.

The decision to allow Ashley go now, without a new manager, points that we have proberly got one in the wings, and has given agreement to the sale, and boosting his kitty.

I really, really hope im right :?

who do you want, woodytom?

I wanted Martinez mate. Got quite excited about him actually. A poor mans Mourinho :D

Right now, theres nobody that excites me!

you would prefer martinez over moyes? that makes no sense to me at all

Well, personality for a start!

When we were linked with Martinez everyone was saying why? he hasnt won anything??

Why arent we asking the same question with Moyes??

No they weren't, they were asking what has he achieved. two 16th place finishes isn't exactly a record that would make people say 'he can take us forward' ...people weren't saying what's he won at all. If he had finished 12th and 9th with Wigan, I bet helluva lot more fans would have loved Martinez.

ok, my bad - if thats what they were saying.

But again same question applies?

In the time Martinez has been managing (3 years) hes achieved a promotion with Swansea and no doubt achieved his season goals at Wigan, whilst reducing the wage bill quite considerably.

On the other hand, Moyes nearly got to the champions league, an Fa cup final - 2 other very good finishes. 2 quite atrocious finishes for Everton and then the rest where they probably should be.

Im unaware of his time at Preston tbh.

No one seems to acknowledge that whilst Martinez hasnt really achieved greatness, hes only been at it 3 years!!

Everton before David Moyes:

15th, 17th, 14th 13th, 16th, 15th.

Since Moyes:

7th, 17th, 4th, 11th, 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th ....so to say ...11th is atrocious ....and 5th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th ...where they should be is also IMO very wrong.

Wigan before Martinez ....10th, 17th, 14th, 11th ....

since Martinez, 16th, 16th.

So while I think he's a talented manager for the future ....you're being extremely one sided in your view Martinez has done some sort of good job while David Moyes has done nothing.

bloody hell, your one sad individual  :winkold:

Right,

Im not for one second suggesting Martinez has done an exceptional job!

on the other hand,

Im not for one second suggesting Moyes hasnt done a good job!

I am basically saying, DO David Moyes' achievements (when you consider length of time hes been manager, size of club (foundations etc), quality of players (something he has to be given credit for)), outweigh the achievements Martinez has had (again when you consider time, clubs hes been at etc) so so much, that it would be unthinkable to question them (Moyes achievements), baring in mind we questioned Martinez's.

Yes, because Moyes has took a struggling club and with good man management, astute buying/selling and made them into a regular top 7 finish team. Martinez has took over Wigan, mid table and managed to keep them up twice.

Yes Moyes has had more time but in his 2 years, Martinez hasn't over achieved which you need to do at a smaller club to show you are ready.

You can't finish where you're supposed to finish every year and then expect to get a job at a much bigger team. Yes Moyes now doesn't over achieve, only simply because he made them into a club that makes you think a top 8 finish is nothing to them when in fact, before him, they would have killed for just a top 10 finish.

Moyes is proven successful, Martinez isn't. He could be, but why would we pick a manager who could once become similar level to Moyes, when we could just get Moyes ...

Im not sure I follow 100% POB!

Moyes is yet to prove he is capable of taking us where we want to be!!

I dont want consistent top 8 finishes!! I want trophies!! Now of course, I have to be realistic and acknowledge the chances of us dominating silverware are slim - But that doesnt mean I have to want a manager who is only a proven top 8 manager!

Now of course, Martinez would not guarantee trophies either and would prove a bigger risk than Moyes. But, theres an uncertainty with Martinez of just how much potential he really has - He could be a real gem!! He might not be. We kinda know with Moyes what were going to get and I suppose its whether you want the safe option, or the risky unknown 1.

I would also argue your point regarding Wigan dropping down since Martinez came in. They lost a lot of there best players and havent actually finished (pointswise) much lower than before. The leagues improved for me - Its a lot closer between 7th or so - 20th imo and I think Everton have also suffered from this as they appear to be heading baclwards too.

We dont agree on a lot POB, but you always argue your point well!

im now thinking i will be gus poyet. although if andre villas-boas wants to really prove himself in he premiership coming to villa would be a brave move!

It would take 13 million to get Villas-Boas and he's destined for likes of Real Madrid, Man Utd etc anyway, so there's no chance.

One of the major pluses of getting Moyes would be the reinstatement of our ability to hold onto our players!

I wouldn't be so hopeful on that score as its a question of money.

There isn't a manger on the planet that would have persuaded Ash to stay as he's being reportedly offered 120k a week. Around double what he gets here.

You are right, no one could have persuaded Young to stay, and it would be the same with most players in his contractual position.

However my thoughts were of the club in general, the fact we are seen as a bit of a soft touch in recent years in terms of holding on to our players.
