The problem with Clark presently is who else (right now - match fit and available) can take his place next to Vlaar??

Clark is a promising player but has suffered from being played week in week out alongside other inexperienced defenders and midfielders.

I don't recall Gary Cahill being too much better at the same age and he was playing alongside the likes of Laursen and Mellberg...

really? Cahill at his age had already scooped player of the year awards at Burnley and just had a big money move to Bolton.

I really shouldn't feed the troll, but it's a quiet Sunday afternoon and I could do with a laugh.

You are calling me a troll for calling you on your claim Clark "loses the majority of his headers" which was obviously complete bullshit?

I do know I'm afraid. You're wrong and don't understand the sport. This is evidence of that:

I'm not making stuff up. You have been.

The ball hitting your head and going backwards towards danger because you've been pushed around again doesn't mean you've won a header.

When did this happen? How many times did this happen? You're guessing again.

I think you'd be better off studying baseball or cricket which relies more on numbers. Or you could always try watching football instead of reading numbers about it, it's good fun.

Don't patronise me.

I've said nothing out of order. I've just corrected you on your claim that Clark loses the majority of headers and disagreed with another person who thought Clark was a "shockingly-bad" central defender.

I'm free to have my own opinion and not be called a troll.

Said this on the 23rd September and its still the same now

"He's just not good enough, poor positional sense, can't ,jump, weak, slow, rash but at least he has good technique. We will lose more than win or draw with him at CB. I would love to see our win % with him at CB"

Clark was doing better with a back 4 in 442.

Since Liverpool we have been 352/343.

The effect of this on the team's defence and individual performances cannot be stressed enough.

Having said all this, the two Millwall goals (Lichaj, Lowton), the Bradford goal (Vlaar), the two West Brom goals (Delph, Bennett), the Southampton penalty (Stevens) were not Clark's error.

Clark's taking a lot of stick for the James Hanson goal in the first Bradford game.

what? am sure we switched from 3 at the back vs Spurs and only played it vs WBA in the league since then.

Hanson didnt score in the 1st game and took a lot of stick as Clark made a former shelf stacker look like a world class footballer

Four defenders:

Sunderland 0 - 1 Villa (Vlaar, Clark, Lichaj, Lowton)

Villa 0 - Arsenal 0 (Lichaj, Clark, Stevens, Lowton)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20374580

Villa 0 - 0 Stoke (Clark, Lichaj, Baker, Lowton)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20564749

Villa 1 - 0 Reading  (Clark, Baker, Lichaj, Lowton).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20405324

Then the game we had 3 at the back

Five defenders:

Liverpool 1 - 3 Villa (Lowton, Baker, Herd, Clark, Lichaj)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20650106

That was the first PL game 3 at the back. We also did it against Norwich in the midweek CC game.

What happened? We were looking solid with 4 at the back. Lambert got over-confident, went more aggressive 3 at the back - and after a couple of good games against Liverpool and Nowich, we've not looked back since.

Hanson didnt score in the 1st game and took a lot of stick as Clark made a former shelf stacker look like a world class footballer

I was mistaken, McHugh scored.

Nope, not guessing, just watching us play. You should try it like I said. It gives a really good picture of how good players are.

upon thought, clark is missing a beat here, maybe him switching to LB wouldnt be a bad option

its clear that him and baker together in the centre is awful, we clearly need another CB, and we also need a LB, but if clark was willing to switch it could see him cement a long term place there, him and vlaar is not the long term answer

we wouldnt need to worry about having to see bennett or lichaj at LB either
