I'd still prefer Mclaren - although he'd never leave Wolfsburg this soon after spending some big dosh and getting Diego in.
I can just imagine his first press conference as he attempts a Brummie accent.

Interesting... maybe Houllier has bagged himself an interview. Not sure what I would make of him to be honest, I would be fairly open to it.

I feel the same - I'd prefer him to Klinsman but there a plenty of names that I would go for before him v- Moyes, Jol, McLeish, Hughes

MacDonald will recommend young stars to new Aston Villa boss

Sep 1 2010 by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail

MANAGERIAL candidate Kevin MacDonald will recommend Villa’s rising young stars to the next boss if he fails to get the permanent job.

MacDonald has given first team opportunities to Marc Albrighton, Ciaran Clark, Barry Bannan and Jonathan Hogg during his temporary reign.

And, with yesterday’s transfer deadline passing without any more arrivals or departures, the youngsters could be integral members of the squad.

Now that he has thrown his hat into the ring, MacDonald would relish the chance to work with his claret and blue protégés on a long-term basis.

But, if he fails to get the job, MacDonald would give the successful candidate glowing appraisals of the players he has nurtured in the reserves.

“I’m sure all of the applicants are of a very high standard and will have been looking at how Aston Villa have been playing.

“I think they would know themselves what those players are like.

“Of course if they were to ask me I would give them the information and hopefully a few of them would be round the squad.

“There are a lot of talented young players in and around the first team squad and I obviously think very highly of them.

“How far they go in the game is down to the individuals themselves, but I would certainly recommend them.”

Villa’s squad are anxious to learn who will be their permanent manager with James Collins becoming the latest player to publicly support MacDonald yesterday, claiming the caretaker has the “total respect” of the dressing room.

Collins was speaking on Euro 2012 qualifying duty with Wales and Villa’s top brass hope to unveil the new boss by the time the international contingent return to Bodymoor Heath next Thursday in preparation for the Premier League trip to Stoke on Monday week.

Club officials reported another productive day as their interview process to recruit Martin O’Neill’s permanent successor continued yesterday.

Villa are hoping the appointment will be as painless as possible but have not ruled out trying to tempt a manager from another club, despite director General Charles C Krulak revealing that such a scenario would not sit comfortably with him.

Posting on fans’ internet message-board VillaTalk, Krulak said: “There are those who seem to think that we can waltz into any club and get a manager of ilk to leave their club and come to ours.

“Did it ever occur to you that I, speaking as a fan and former Marine who values loyalty, may not want a manager who would up and desert his club for additional money?

“I may well think that such a manager might not be “right” for our Club.

“I am not saying that is a criteria, I am just saying as a fan, not a board member, I am not sure that getting someone who has bailed from their club is something I would feel comfortable about.

“It is for this reason that discussing the manager and the criteria is not something I am going to do.

“Randy has said he will announce the name...and I will just wait for that to happen.”

Despite Villa spelling out their desire for a manager with Premier League experience, Ronald Koeman has repeated his interest in the vacancy and claims Villa have approached his representatives, but Bob Bradley has extended his contract with the America national team.

Don't get me wrong there are definitely people I would prefer to Houllier, maybe even Klinnsman due to the coverage and publicity he would create, and the fact he could attract good names and an attacking brand of football to VP. I would like Hughes and Moyes but I think that the timing is all wrong for these 2 as they will stay loyal to their respective clubs.

I can't see it being K Mac, I really can't envisage it.

Was it not Houiller's team which Rafa used to win the chumps league?

H

He also won three cups in one season. Uefa , fa cup and league cup.

Yes but Houiller didn't win it despite how much I dislike FSW.

No way to I want Curbs or Sven so it's between Macdonald and Houiller (of the ones that have been apparently shortlisted) for me.

To be fair Rafa had signed Alonoso, Garcia, Nunez and Josemi for that side! ;)

Hes also regarded as the major factor in Frances success on the international stage, since it was he, who laid down the foundations for those players to come through.

It was for that reason he was appointed Liverpool manager, and he did very well there.

Looking at what the general recently said about youth, Houllier is top of the list.

Yeah, I'd take a cup treble winning season :)
