Jarpie
How many brittish players have actually succeeded in Italy or Spain? David Platt in Italy and David Beckham in Spain, are there others?
BOF Posted May 22, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 22, 2012 If they decide they need him and they go after him then I think Spurs will have a job on their hands.
The_Rev
John Charles is the obvious answer, voted Serie A's best foreign player of the 20th century. No mean feat when you consider he was up against the likes of Platini, Maradona, Van Basten, Zidane, Ronaldo (etc). Other examples off the top of my head? Lineker (Barcelona) McManaman (Real Madrid) Souness (Sampdoria) Away from Italy and Spain there is Chris Waddle (Marseilles, where he was voted their second best player of the 20th century behind Papin) Kevin Keegan won the Ballon d'Or twice in a row at Hamburg and Paul Lambert won the Champions League with Dortmund in 1997. Has to be Drogba purely for his big goals in particualr goals in cup finals. Lampard a close second. Zola... was a very good player but don't class him as anything that special to be honest.
