The Bundesliga Thread

In lower-league news, Adrian Mrowiec leaves Heart of Midlothian for ambitious German Fourth Division side RB Leipzig. The article says the Red Bull backed 4th division side intend on winning the Bundesliga within 7 years, thanks to an £80m investment. They're not the same as VfB Leipzig who are now known as Lokomotive Leipzig and play in the 5th tier.

So Red Bull Leipzig kind of won their league this season. Up to the 3rd tier now with bells on.

Job done. We in playoffs :hooray: Looking like Dusseldorf will be our opponent if my crystal ball is accurate for the final day's fixtures.

Here's a quote from the ex (That could be the key thing) President of Santos -

I can reveal this news first hand. It’s already closed. Neymar has signed for Bayern Munich. I’m not speculating, the information is undeniable. From August 2013, Neymar will be part of the fabric of Bayern Munich.

"His future will not be Spain. Neither Barcelona, neither Real Madrid. He is going to Germany. Anyone who doubts this should wait and see."

And here's pretty much the same thing on a different website -

Who knows? Could be a bit of big talk trying to tempt those bidding for him to increase their offers.

i was under the impression barca had already bought a percentage of him off a 3rd party and this summer would just be paying santos?

So was I but now I can't find a single report about it.

so much for the wonderful German model of football if Bayern are hoovering up all the talent it will be a weak league

The important difference to note is Bayern are living within their means. If financial fair play comes into full effect then the current state of affairs in Germany will be repeated throughout Europe - the traditional big teams will be ring fenced and the rest will live off their scraps, and the nouveau rich will be punished.

Now on to Pep...

I think he secretly hopes that Dortmund win the Champions League final on Saturday.   The only way is down for him next season if Bayern have a clean sweep.

Hoffenheim v Kaiserslautern in the playoff. Must say they were my least preferable of the 3 possibles, despite being the lowest ranked going into week 34. They have top flight pedigree more than Augsburg & Dusseldorf. It's weird as a fan being involved in a playoff. I am actually quite nervous about the whole thing :)

The Bundesliga is really a 1 team league.

How can Bayern Munich buy Borussia Dortmund's best two players?

Can you imagine Barcelona buying Ronaldo and Ozil?

Can you imagine Manchester United buying Aguero and Silva?

It just would not happen.

There is certainly only one ever-present super-power, but the financial rules of the Bundesliga (51% fan ownership*) mean there'll never be only one team in the sense of there always being one constant champion. It is a reason for the Bundesliga's success and a reason for their guaranteed future success and stability that they have introduced a system that eliminates the possibility of a huge benefactor taking full control of a club.

That being said, it'll be interesting to see what happens when Red Bull Leipzig get promoted to the top flight in probably 2 seasons time.

* with the exception of Leverkusen & Wolfsburg

man city just spent the last 5 years buying players off their direct rivals in the league and then seemingly trying to unsettle everyone elses, did it to us, everton and then arsenal, tried to do it utd last year

the difference isnt that bayern can buy dortmund's players, the difference is dortmund dont pay them £180k a week for them to stay...
