Other than that Broad no ball, the new ball has brought nothing.

It's all very well having batters who can rattle off 400. But you need a bowling attack to keep the opposition under pressure. We're relying on 3 old me n.

Both bowling attacks have looked ordinary on this wicket, despite having plenty of quality.

I think it’s a natural 450-500 first innings track and we shouldn’t have declared.

We’ll likely see small but significant partnerships all the way down the order, and Australia could end up putting on a decent lead.

Glimmers of hope are Broad is occasionally looking very dangerous. There is a bit of swing for Jimmy. Moeen has bowled about as well as could have been expected.

How much play are we actually expecting from the last 3 days given the forecast? Could end up being a draw?

Actually the thing I hadn’t spotted is we knocked off our whole total within 80 overs, so no new ball.

Aussies now have to face new ball… and Broad looks dangerous now!

Bad luck with the no ball

It's forecast over at til after lunch then rain so we th relatively new ball we should get some turn, hopefully Jimmy and Broad can get some rhythm and at least put pressure and get through to the tailenders before it rains.

Pathetic. The Hundred is dying on its arse, well at least the men's version.  It won't last 10 years.

Not true.

Final is already a sellout and it sells more tickets than the T20 blast.

It's really popular.

Going back to this there is so much coverage about the Edgbaston atmosphere and Fortress Edgbaston.  Just can't understand why you wouldn't include it.

Usually if edgbaston is missing a year then it means the stadium plans for expansion will be coming.

We've just won the next 8 years worth of international cricket, which is the longest notification of international cricket at edgbaston.

Already chatter that the Hundred could be axed as no other country wants to play it.

It'll be converted to another T20 competition.

Well, I'm back from two days at the cricket.

I snuck so much contraband into day 1, I woke up this morning and didn't realise we'd declared and put Australia in for 4 overs.

Still made it to the Tally Ho this morning for breakfast 😎

Today was a dry day (alcohol wise) and it was a tough day in the field.  The evening session in particular you could see the fatigue setting in.

Apart from Bairstow's trouble at keeping Moeens spin, I thought we fielded really well, shout-out to Broad and Anderson for saving a few 4s, Mo did well in the deep too.

Tough game to call from here. Khawaja seems like he's really enjoying himself and we know the tail of Australia can stick around, hopefully a few clouds in the morning will see us take 4 more wickets 🤞🏼

Are you sure you were dry today? Otherwise not sure how you've managed to quote me and delete what I said😁

I went for a curry afterwards and had 2 beers, but the cricket was dry!

And yea.. I'm not sure why it quoted you, but when I came to write the post it picked up your quote and I couldn't delete the box lol

Is that 3 that Bairstow has put down now in this match that an establish keeper would have Beene covered to take

guess England have to trade not playing a wicket keeper v his run contribution

or find a way to include both !!

I think that might be called 'Damned with faint praise'.

Problem England have now if Mooen is several hampered by his spinning finger and the wicket is taking spin. Lyon will be a huge factor second innings and we will really need mooen second innings and he can't bowl at his best. Probably best he doesn't bowl again first innings.

That seems to be the argument for playing him, the runs he gets batting.

But that is irrelevant if he is costing more runs than he makes with his keeping errors.

Also assumes a better keeper than him i.e. Foakes, who would take those chances,  wouldnt make runs with the bat, which i dont think is true.

Who would Foakes come in for? I’d like to see him come back in but wondering which batsman would have to step aside.

Got to be one of Crawley / Duckett / Pope?

On paper looks like a no brainer, probably saves us 50+ runs in the field, and maybe only sacrificing 10 runs with the bat (if at all), but lose some of the Bazball aggression...

Bairstow should 100% be playing IMO, the only question is who keeps. I wouldn’t swap Bairstow out for Foakes, I’d take out one of the specialist batsmen
