I thought we were favourites going into the tournament, less so after the Afghanistan and Ireland games but we’ve got so many different matchwinners in this form of the game it’s almost embarrassing, not even the first XI but all the options who aren’t even playing (Wood, Topley, Willey, Malan for example).

Great performance though (in the end) and did enough throughout the tournament, how things might have gone had the group game against Australia gone ahead, who knows.

Great !  : >

And I just learnt from the BBC that it's a new record: first country to be the holders of both world cups at the same time. And now joint top with windies for T20 world cup wins: two each. So happy for Stokes after his nightmare final over on 2016, redemption for him in this format.

In one day cricket ( as I dont watch any other ) if a "wide"is bowled and the batsmen run for 2,do they get a total of 3 ( 1 for the wide ) also if they run on a wide can they still get run out,or stumped.

Sorry for these silly questions but I only started watching one day cricket recently and still trying to figure out some of the rules.

So England are about to be hammered in the 3rd and final match of what has to be the most poorly and ridiculously timed series of ODI matches in history.

Whoever in the ECB thought it would be a good idea should be sacked, there was always a good chance one of the two sides would win the T20 World Cup or would at least reach the final, so why would they then be motivated to play a pointless three match series (that doesn’t even count toward the one day / ICC points system).

It’s a major issue in the sport at the moment, having three formats makes it harder obviously but something has to be done about the scheduling, it’s also a major contributor to the levels of injuries being suffered, particularly amongst the fast bowlers.

Cricket has the same problem as every other sport. The people running it are obsessed with money and they way to make more money is to have more games. They don't run the game in the correct manner, it's just a numbers game focused solely on revenue. Same problem in football, rugby, golf, etc.

I think you're right, but I also think Cricket has done an excellent job of re-inventing itself almost and moving with the times. Yes, it's heavily commercialised now, but you can't say it hasn't driven a huge amount of interest in the sport.
Like all things, there needs to be a balance which I agree, there isn't at the moment, but T20 and to a lesser extent T100, have really made cricket an attractive option as a sporting event to go and watch and take the kids. My brother in law hasn't been to a cricket match in his life but went to a T100 game at Edgbaston recently with his daughter and he came back saying he can't wait to go again next year. That's an example of somebody who has no real passion for the game, going and enjoying the sport with his family. That can only be a good thing.

Especially given the score

TBH it has been a bit too uneventful, and applauding Steve Smith brings me out in a rash. Chanderpaul catching one right in the plums was the most emotional moment, brought tears to my eyes, though Travis Head getting bowled on 99 was a moment, too. Aussie Bowlers look a lot more hostile.

England have gone ballistic again! On for around 500 runs on day one (flat track admittedly).

Four centurions in the first five batsmen. Can't say I've ever seen that before.

That’s because it’s never been done before. Along with scoring 500 runs on the first day of a test. They’d have had the record for most runs in a single day of a test match too if the umpires had hung on for another few balls before shutting it down for bad light.

Absolutely insane scoring, irrespective of the condition of the pitch.

If you’ve ever considered getting tickets for an England test match then now is the time (although I think next summer is pretty much sold out already except for the expensive seats / packages).
