I think Begins is considerably better than the Dark Knight. TDK has, as has been mentioned before, a heavy handed moral dilemma too many. Plus, I much prefer the look of Begins, it feels more like 'Batman' to me than the Michael Mann inspired visuals of the second film. It is still an enjoyable film, but I just don't think it deserves the praise it gets in some corners.

TDKR was an enjoyable conclusion but it felt heavily edited, and the ending was daft and stank of board room interference.

i also really, really hate Nolan's use of... refrains? I don't know if there is a word for it specific to films, but the repeated lines are always in his films. None worse than 'Why do we fall?'. Bah.

I remember seeing Begins in the cinema and thinking that's a decent old flick, good reboot. Nothing more. When I saw The Dark Knight I REALLY enjoyed it and loved Ledgers Joker, and the darker theme of the movie.

But of course, it became so popular and gets over analysed. I'm glad I saw both before they changed what they were by over analysis. Similar to Inception, it's an entertaining Nolan flick, which I enjoyed a lot.

They are entertaining movies, Batman especially is a super hero movie, it's fundamentally limited by what it can achieve. But try digging deep and they don't hold up to much, they aren't supposed to.

We delve into Lynch, Aranofski, Malick and try analyse. But Nolan, he consistently makes movies that entertain. I'm really glad he's around. I miss being entertained.

I don't mind Q of S to be honest

Certainly the first 2 Craig films are watchable over and over .... I'm not sure I'd watch Skyfail again

But maybe it will be one if those films that gets better on a second viewing .

With you there Tone. Q of S and Casino Royale easily me 2 favouriute Bond films. TBH, I'm not a fan of the whole Bond franchise anyway, but Craig took it in a new, adult, gritty direction. Sadly, Skyfall seemed like a return to Bond of yesteryear, and that's not for me.

Interesting as I spoke to a friend who saw it quite recently and he thought it was a bit so so as it wasn't anything like the old Bond films. No gadgets and all that. It should be added that he has seen neither CR nor QoS. And "his" Bond is Brosnan. But still funny how different you can see things. :) As I've stated earlier I really liked Skyfall and it will certainly go in my collection and I will watch it again.

QofS didnt have enough story IMO took the gritty thing too far and spoilt it

skyfall has a great story and id say possibly the best cast / acting in any bond film, i think it might be the 1st bond film to get an oscar nod other than special effects, im thinking screenlay plus dench and maybe bardem up for supporting and with it stretched to 10 films it might even get a nod for best pic

I watched some of the Connery Bonds again recently. Dr. No, From Russia and Goldfinger were all still great fun.

Thunderball was the first one I saw on release back in the day, so I thought I'd enjoy that one best of all. But it was a BIG let down. With hindsight, that stupid jet pack sequence was a harbinger of the rubbish to come in the Moore era. I'm now not looking forward to revisiting You Only Live Twice.

And that's why. The gadgets took over.

The DB5 was good, but after that it just got silly. Bear in mind that by this point I had read all the books, and there was none of that in them.

Only God Forgives

Ryan Gosling is far from his usual handsome persona in a fresh poster for his upcoming thriller "Only God Forgives". The 32-year-old actor is featured in a very gruesome look with an awfully bruised and battered face in the one sheet. Though it's a black-and-white poster, it is quite clear that the actor is wearing a blood-smeared shirt under his vest.

In addition to the disturbing poster, the film uncovers two other black-and-white images that feature Gosling in an equally unpleasant look. In one picture, he is seen sporting a swollen eye from a close-up range, while in another, he is shown looking outside a window. Once again, his face is seen battered down.

"Only God Forgives" is set in Bangkok where Gosling plays an Englishman named Julian. Ten years ago, Julian killed a cop and went on the run. Now, he manages a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. Respected in the criminal underworld, deep inside, he feels empty.

When Julian's brother murders a prostitute, the police call on retired cop Chang - the Angel of Vengeance. Chang allows the father to kill his daughter's murderer, then "restores order" by chopping off the man's right hand. After that, Julian's mother Jenna - the head of a powerful criminal organization - arrives in Bangkok to collect her son's body. She dispatches Julian to find his brother's killers and "raise hell."

Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release, but unfortunately, Chang wins. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.

The crime movie reunites Gosling with director Nicolas Winding Refn after their successful collaboration in "Drive". Winding Refn pens the script in addition to serving behind the lens. Tackling the part of Gosling's mob-boss mother is Kristin Scott Thomas. The film still hasn't got a U.S. release date.

All the stuff thats come out before now about Only God Forgives has me very excited.

As for Drive, turn the sound up when you watch too - the soundtrack is one of the best and most appropriate I can recall.
