Now it's a 26 man squad (and Toney came back quite underwhelmingly), I think there's zero chance he doesn't go.

He came out of the gate hot, 4 goals in 5 then just disappeared. But I agree. There’s no way he should go. Like I said I’m just being pessimistic/selfish. I’d be surprised if Ollie isn’t selected.

Still think Southgate will take Toney and Rashford ahead of Watkins because one plays similarly to Kane and Rashford plays for ManUre (but is tried and tested etc etc)

Even if Watkins does get called up, he’ll hardly feature.

Yup, I'm pretty relaxed about the selection. I'm sure Watkins wants to go, so I hope he does, but if he does he's basically going to get a front row seat to watch the matches.

Southgate would rather go full Weekend At Bernie's with a deceased Harry Kane than drop or rest him in a tournament, even when he's playing dreadfully.

Harry Kane hasn’t played since the champions league semi final so may not be fully fit.

Grealish and Rashford should be nowhere near the squad.

No chance Southgate doesn't take Trippier. He'll be one of the first in the squad, even if only to take him for LB as Shaw and Chilwell are injured/or will be again soon anyway.

The extra spaces will be used for defenders, or defensive minded players, so he can alternate between 5-2-3 and 4-3-3.

Depressingly, we all know he's going to be as pragmatic and turgid as possible. He'll be stubborn about picking anyone that isn't one of his "trusted" guys too. So that does mean places for Trippier, Maguire, Henderson, and Rashford even though they've been woeful for a good long while now.

This would be a great opportunity to unleash some young attacking players who've had terrific seasons like Bellingham, Palmer, and Foden, but he'll only play one of them in a starting 11.

It would be pretty brave to take two injured left-backs and nobody else who can play that position.

Both are forecast to be healthy (although agree match fitness / form isn’t there).

Not many other LB options, are there? Tripper at LB and Gomez are pretty uninspiring, Colwill has just come back from injury himself and is probably more of a CB.

They've both been forecast to be healthy for weeks but still aren't. 

Given how people seem to wet their pants about how selection should be based on form, the answer is obvious - Mitchell. Take Trippier and Gomez as the utility options who can fill in across the back where required.

He's go no injury excuses (right now) if trippier isn't fit enough I can see him calling up Rico Lewis

He'll name those players as attackers not midfielders to make it look like an attacking squad - I'd love to know what the goal contributions are across this entire squad for 23/24, I'd guess close to 400 yet we will look like strangers and struggle for goals under this clown 

Chilwell, rashford, Gomez, Henderson, Maguire, Dier shouldn't be anywhere near it, eze should be called up but won't be, guehi and / or tomori too, left back I haven't got a clue who we should call up, both chilwell and Gomez were shite in the last friendlies 

Will be madness if Ollie and Konsa arent called up but you really wouldn't put it past him

Shaw's a big question mark but if he's not fit to start tournament, it'll be Trippier out of position most likely and Gomez as a versatile backup. Put Mitchell as reserve, think he'd be added if Shaw not fit enough to even go. Don't see him risking Chilwell (or James at RB) as both had plenty injury problems and weren't established favourites when fit. Konsa or Guehi might well miss out but with 26 man you can take an extra CB - perhaps he'll go Branthwaite as a future one over Konsa, wouldn't shock me. Or maybe Dier does come back.

Rashford will get in despite doing nothing in the last year to deserve it. Watkins over Toney just, I think, based on how the season's ended, but he might go with both and drop out someone like Bowen/Grealish as there's may be too many wingers. Should prob find room for Eze on form. And potentially try and steal Olise from French by calling him up too..but those positions are stacked already, makes it tricky.

That is exactly who will go. Shaw (hopefully he recovers enough to play at least a bit) and then Trippier and Gomez as cover.
