Philosopher
I feel the defensive side of his game is the only real weakness other than sometimes holding on to the ball too long. On the left this can be targeted. So I'd prefer to see him behind Ollie where the if he gets caught out defensively he isn't exposing our left back or trying to cover for the left back. As both our lefts backs aren't the best defensively.

That's probably the easiest part to teach if you already have the other attributes for your role anyway.

Monchi was particularly clever in getting Moreno in six months before he joined the club.

T-Dog
I may have said last night (I'd had a beer or too, don't judge)... Regardless of money spent, reputation, previous career history, current performances........ Rogers or Diaby? Rogers is the signing of the season.
MWARLEY2
He can be extremely wasteful in possession when he tries to barrel through a tackle and passes badly but thats the nature of the beast. He is like Buendia in that regard. The trade off is worth it though big time. You get a player who takes up brilliant positions in attacking areas, has finesse in abundance, and can finish with both feet with power and accuracy. You then add the breaking the lines passing and rrunning and you get a kid with a huge future for us. He isnt for everyone though but perfect for us and our system. Rogers is miles better than Diaby at nearly every aspect of the game. And that isn’t a good thing. Diaby cost us a shit load. 1
tommytenjobs
Is there any other option than Morgan for young player of the year? Thinking about this last night and I couldn't come up with one. Perhaps says more about Ramseys injuries and the 'aging' squad we have thanks to relegation avoiding squad building and Gerrard in recent past.....and Rogers has been great don't get me wrong....but i think he gets it almost through default. And he's only been here for a third of the season. Any other shouts?

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted May 4 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted May 4 He's made for Unai and Unai is made for him. He's a good technical player and over time, Unai will work with him on his whole game, on his passing, his positioning and defensive work and he'll improve him - but he's incredibly effective already, and he's incredibly effective already because he has 'a thing'. The reviews for him at his other clubs are largely similar in a lot of ways, he was 'alright' or 'okay' with occasional flashes of real promise - but I think Unai does something very specific that's helping him be the player he is right now. The scouting team and the manager have looked at him and seen the 'thing' he does - the ability to turn through midfield and drive toward goal with the ball at this feet, causing chaos - he does that as well as just about anyone and it's a heck of a weapon - they've seen that and our manager has considered what he can do with it, how he can add that to the toolbox he carries around in his head and how he can incorporate it into his system. And then, because the manager is a genius, he's found a way to make that 'thing' work for him, he's built a system that allows Morgan Rogers to turn and drive at defences, over and over and over during games, it's a player doing the thing he's good at, a lot, during games - and if you look at our team and our system, that's Unai's genius. What's Bailey good at? What does he spend most of his time doing for us? What's Torres good at? What does he spend most of his time doing for us? Think Zaniolo holding the ball up against Arsenal, McGinn getting into positions where he can use his big Scottish arse to turn out and get us facing in the right direction - Unai gets players that sometimes aren't complete, but have specific talents and gets them playing in systems where those specific talents are the thing they do most often - Bailey twisting a left back, Torres playing out from the back, every man playing to his strengths with his weaknesses covered by the team and the system. For Morgan, that's a Godsend, it's why we think about him differently to some of his previous clubs, we get a lot less of the 'alright' and the 'okay' and we watch him do the thing that makes him special an awful lot. You can see that he knows it, you can see that he's enjoying it, you can see how much confidence he's getting from it and you can see that he feels ten feet tall - all of that is making him a better player - all of that is persuading him to listen to whatever this management and coaching team are telling him to work on next - all of that will help him develop more quickly - you can see the confidence in his finishing, you can see it in the way he react when he loses the ball and his intention when he has it. He's a fantastic player, benefitting us with a talent few players have and getting the benefit of a really, really good coaching team and a genius of a manager who is going to make him better in the future while letting him show what he's good at now. He's a perfect fit and as good an example as you could find as to how good our manager actually is - imagine where Morgan could be with a couple more seasons of working with him. More of this please. 4
