Unless he’s had complications with either knee, it may not be that. Maybe his groin injury is worse than it is, but it depends on how the club views it I guess
B30Villa
Perhaps they’re holding the plane in case there’s movement on the Acuna deal and needs to fly to collect him?
The_Steve
I don’t really have time right now to substantiate and certify all the rumours. Let’s just wait for the club to say either way. 1
Jareth
I think the Villa fan base is rather easy to wind up at the moment when it comes to injuries - I'm saying this is collective hysteria meets impatience. 1

You were doing such a good job though. I wholly agree though. Let’s just wait and see!! I imagine it’s all fine. I sure Romano would be all over it if it were true as he’s tweeted twice an hour for a week on the deal.

Presume a more indepth medical was required ? Good to hear we're being thorough I guess. Five/six years ago all that was required was being able to beat Dr Tony in an arm wrestle. alreadyexists Posted August 17, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 17, 2023 I don’t see it as bad luck if he fails his medical, that’s good, it would be worse to pass the medical and then be a burden by not being fit enough to play

Why would any transport leave when the person involved hasn't completed their business? 1st part of medical was yesterday and 2nd part today - makes no sense for the plane to leave before the medical is completely finished. 3

I would argue opposite. These are chartered planes. The company likely has many around the world and will move them as and when they get a request to book a private flight. It also costs money to keep a plane on the ground. I would think Birmingham is expensive.
Tayls
No player truly fails a medical… a club decides on whether they can: A) afford to wait X amount of time for them to recover. 2) the likely hood of an injury reoccurring and taking that time into account against the length of their contract D) whether their ability to play now can be taken into account as part of the negotiations on a deal with the selling club. If Zaniolo has ‘failed’ a medical, it’s not as if he is going to retire now. He will either play for Gala, or will go elsewhere later on. If Villa decide the circumstances aren’t right for what we need RIGTH NOW, then so be it. We need a replacement for Buendia. Of course it’s all rumours at the minute anyway, so… Edited August 17, 2023 by Tayls

skarroki
Whenever I think of failed medicals I think of Fekir. Has had an amazing career from a stats perspective and looked the real deal but whenever he gets close to his one big move there's a very public failure of the medical. Always wondered what they're uncovering after checking his pulse that wasn't known from watching him play most matches for his club over 10 years. Popular Post Beastmix
Having inside knowledge* of how these things work, here's a probable timeline of events which, assuming there are no issues, may explain the delay: Plane arrives around 12:30-1pm yesterday. Arrives at BMH around 2-3ish (conservative with the timing here). Following a 4.5 hour flight (and likely 7-8ish+ hour travel day), opted to just have a look around and do basic tests/medical paperwork. This is normal if a player arrives off a fairly long flight and it's not deadline day. This also explains why the plane was told to stick around. Again, completely normal and easily arranged/financed at this level. A full sports medical takes several hours, so it's not something you're going to want to do, nor would our medical team want them to do, while travel weary. Other formalities looked at with his people (housing, travel, visas, going through standard non-contract documents, endless photocopying, probably had a chat over something to eat, etc) - the boring essential stuff - by which it would have been getting on for time anyway. They likely stayed at the Belfry last night, due to its high standing and proximity to BMH, hence his agent being there earlier. Today would then be the standard medical, adding the contract signature, and media day (photos, etc). *not at Villa, but it's more-or-less the same at any high profile club 9
