Mad to think that when Spurs kick off we’ll have played 3 more games than them… I mean, for a team with no Europe, and not in the cups, that shouldn’t really happen should it!? I think from our point of view it’s lovely to pile pressure on an opponent, but from the PL’s point of view it’s rubbish really and shouldn’t happen

It's wrong, it's a good job we have won our last 2 games, we could have been in a position where spurs would know exactly what they have to do, as win , draw etc.

As things have turned out we have put pressure on them but we still have European games sandwiched amongst premier league games to come.

Maybe, but they'd probably have to lose every game to finish below us, and even then we'd need to win 3 out of 4 games

It's not going to happen

Mathematical possibilities only exist for Manure catching us, not us catching Liverplop. #VTLogic

I bet Emery won't have the defeatist attitude like some in here...

Much like last season the same posters were saying Europe was NOT on, look what happened...

I'm a believer mate.

Well seeing as it's me saying this and last season I never said europe wasn't on, this is bollocks isn't it :)

It's not a defeatist attitude to point out that something has a very very very low chance of happening.
I pointed out months ago that Man Utd had a very very low chance of catching us, so was that blind optimism?

Do you think we're going to win the league? Because if you don't that's defeatist because it's mathematically possible

That's the spirit.

So, what happens if we beat Chelsea and Brighton (entirely possible), and Liverpool lose to West Ham (also entirely possible), we'll only be two points behind them and they now need to beat Spurs or at least get a draw to be 3 points ahead with two games left and us still to play.  Believe.

There is consistency though, LOL

Not really.

I'm the one who is saying we won't finish 3rd. I was also the one who even as far back as February, when everyone was crying and saying we'd finish behind Man Utd, was doing the maths and telling everyone they wouldn't get anywhere near us.

So the implication that I'm saying we won't finish 3rd because I'm defeatist or not a believer is bollocks, otherwise I'd have been joining in with the bed wetters back then.

I'm saying it because it's mathematically (highly) improbable.

Good for you...

Whilst it's possible I'm happy to believe it is possible also, much the same a s the European run last season when people had that same defeatist attitude.

Come on lads saying we won’t catch Liverpool is not defeatist it’s being realistic. Yes we can win all our games but the chances of that happening and Liverpool losing 5 league games in a row is near impossible!

If I believed this could happen I’d be all over it at the bookies !  Worth a pound bet.

Nobody said it wasn't possible. Of course it's possible.

It's also possible that we can win the league. But nobody is saying we are because people recognise it's highly improbable that that will happen.

Blindly believing something will happen when it almost certainly won't doesn't make you some sort of better fan. And people who recognise how unlikely the outcome is aren't defeatist. That's just bullshit better fan bollocks

Also it's never so matter of fact, one person might feel differently and it doesn't have to resort in name-calling or mentioning the better fan theory...

Just chill and we'll see what happens; if Plop continue to falter and Villa maintain form third is of course a super long-shot but you never know...

This is why I said you can bet Unai Emery believes, you aren't going to tell him any differently; many said the same last year saying Europe wasn't on and I was saying Emery was always positive.

I'm super chilled. And I'm very positive, and I think we'll have a great run in. I think Emery approaches every game believing we can win and I'm behind that 100%

None of that changes by me pointing out we won't finish 3rd

You were the one who started labelling people defeatist or non-believers because they pointed out an improbability. So the bit in bold is quite funny

As I said it's a good job Emery doesn't share that same defeatist attitude...

Reading this thread tonight, Palace are now world beaters, The Harlem Globetrotters of Football. Chelsea and Liverpool now easy games For Villa and Spurs. Anything else I missed?

On the pedantic side, the  "The Harlem Globetrotters" never played in a competitive framework. Hence, why they were unbeatable.
