Now Longstaff, Murphy, Scharr, Joelinton, Almiron etc who looked like Championship players last year are taking the piss with us. They are simply well coached So you envision good coaching making Ollie able to control a ball and pass to a team mate efficiently?

Saying he's one of our better players today is a bit meaningless don't you think? Truly hope the new manager uses a better barometer with which to judge our players than "Well at least he's not as shit at what he does as Ollie Watkins, let's not look to improve that position then." Lol that’s rich coming from you but it’s good to see you still lack any objectivity. Mings has had some bad moments but he’s still our best defender. Doesn’t mean he won’t get upgraded at some point but continually pointing at him saying he’s shit, like you do, and needs to go really makes no sense at all. We need to rid of the softies and get some winners in I'm sure Newcastle were saying the same when they were taken over - they've not changed all the players, they've changed the mentality by being organised.

What is he supposed to do?

It'll be interesting to see how long they can keep this up - with Brighton also looking good, there good be trouble ahead for the supersix and in the long term that might be good for both us and Newcastle. What complete and utter nonsense. Clearly Villa need a complete rebuild starting with the midfield! 1

Just hope Emery is as good at the fine details as his surname suggests! Coaching, we’ve seen the players have it in them so we have to hope Emery getting the coaching right including mentality. Brentford game just gave us a glimpse, this showed the other side. Danks was always not going to make a bigger difference apart from taking the shackles off. Emery needs to build with these guys, obviously transfer a few out but they need to be coached properly. It’s the same as Newcastle last season and now look at them with a decent coach. 1

We are still very unbalanced and lacking in leadership on the pitch. I think we will be better after the WC (and it is good that Emery will get time with a lot of the squad to work on things during that time) but we need to bring in a couple of good players to give him a chance. I think once we have the balance sorted then we will see a few of our other players raise their game because they will have proper support around them. yes it is absolutely essential that the ownership back the manager in january, as howe did newcastle in jan 2022. Signing some new players has the effect of raising the game of the existing players, and generally brings new ideas and ways of thinking into training and implementing tactics. I feel we didnt do enough in the summer and commented as much later on in the transfer thread. After what was a really positive start to the window we seemed to lose momentum whilst other teams kept making signings.
stewiek2
It's definitely a mentality thing. Before that goal we were competitive, indeed had the better chances. But since we've looked shot. The first thing Unai needs to address is our mental side. Opposition scores and we fall to pieces.

However, i'm most annoyed at the likes of Ollie. If he could do the basics right we potentially have a 2 o 3 goal lead first half.
