They should have focused on marketing their leagues a bit better and doling out fairer TV rights deals (particularly La Liga, in the latter regard).

They dug their own graves.

Completely correct the greedy massive clubs take almost all of the revenue. The PL isn't about the big six its about the fact the other 14 can beat the big six.

Which they can do only because of how the TV money is distributed.

Why isn’t there a 65 page thread on this guy already? You guys are slacking man!

Probably because he is some random 19 year old who plays in Chile.

Could be the second coming of Jesus probably not.

I thought Saviola was on there, but I was also wondering if he was only 16 or so, so might have just been on the bench. He was still only 18 but already phenomenal. Instead of plunging for him and Aimar along with Angel in the January window, Doug spent 11m on Bosko Balaban and Peter Crouch the following summer.

Gregory didn't even highlight Diego Placente there, who was a very good player as well.

Doug broke John Gregory he really wanted to burst that “big 4” bubble given the funds to sign who he wanted he would have done it.

Would have probably boosted Angel's transition as well having a a team mate come across with him.

What could have been...

Is Zaniolo a player we should be looking at? Looks like he’s got some decent attributes and a position we could use.

Fantastic player, horrendous injury record. Big gamble for whoever signs him but if he stays fit he's a top player. Could easily turn out to be like Guiseppe Rossi and always injured.

A couple of years ago Zaniolo was going to be the new Francesco Totti - the player that Roma built their squad around for the next 10 years or so.  Given the flashes of brilliance / genius that he showed it wasn't a particularly fanciful aim.  Unfortunately, his injury record is horrific and he has the look now of a player who is going to get injured (almost like the fact that he is worried about getting injured means that he's getting into contact in positions where he is more likely to get injured) and has also struggled to rediscover the form he showed early on.  If he is sold I don't think that there will be a meltdown amongst Roma fans - whereas a couple of seasons back it would have been almost heretical to even consider it.  IF he stays injury free and regains his confidence he could be one of the very best players around BUT it is a huge risk.  Probably worth taking if you can afford the gamble but I'm not sure we are in that position.

For summer targets, this guy must be worth a look...

Owned by the City Group, but has a €20m buy out clause, so should still be attainable. Has played a lot of senior football already for a 19 year old, converted CB, who looks like he has the physicality to play that RCB role. Good aerial stats, and looks very good on the ball.

He might still be shit, but the YouTube highlights and stats both look good.
