Just chatting with a mate and he asked that given our form, a summer of recruitment and Emery having more time with the squad and in the club, could we seriously, even as an outside chance, challenge for a top four next season!  Mind blown that with all the dominance of the big six, their money and the quality of their squads that you wouldn’t put it past us would you, however hard you think it would be.  Obviously solidifying regular top 6 is the aim but shows how far we have come.

As Villa fans, things tend to go wrong or at least fall short, but we have a real chance of progression over the coming seasons because everything is falling into place, just hope we can take our chance and become regular European playing team.

It's a real possibility, we need to get the summer recruitment right though, 2-3 first team players in the right areas will improve the squad massively.

The emergence of Newcastle might not make it harder as most people think.  Having ourselves, Newcastle, Brighton etc. at the heels of the 'big 6' could be a good thing, it means they basically have to have a perfect season to stay above us, and we've seen with Chelsea and Liverpool this season what can happen if they don't.

Its not in our own hands though. We need other teams to drop points i can't see it as the run isnt as easy and i dont think we have the squad depth

7th place is absolutely in our hands - no team below us can catch us if we win all of our games.

6th place is between 0 and 3 points (plus GD) out of our hands depending on the Tottenham vs Brighton at the weekend.

7th is ECL unless Brighton or Sheff Utd win the FA Cup, but it's still 7th if Brighton win it and finish top 7, all assuming that Man Utd (as League Cup winners => ECL)  don't somehow drop out of the top 7.

7th is almost certainly good enough for ECL basically, with a few small caveats. I think we've established that West Ham winning the ECL (extra place in the EL) wouldn't affect anything, nor would Chelsea winning the CL (extra, 5th place in that for them).

Depends on who wins what. This season it was Man City , Chelsea , Liverpool, Spurs in the champions league, Man Utd, Arsenal Europa League then West Ham in the Conference League

YES IT IS.
7th looks guaranteed to be a European position this season. 99% chance.
-If a Finishing TOP 6 team wins the FA CUP (Likely Man City, Man United or Brighton)
-If West Ham win the Conference League a brand new place opens up for them( So 8 PL teams in Europe)

1%- If Sheffield United somehow shock the world and win the FA Cup then no 7th place isn't a European Spot no more

West Ham will be interesting, looking at the quarters in the Conference league, the only team on paper that looks a problem for them is Fiorentina?

Will be interesting if they can win it, and top 8 opens up for European places.

8th wouldn't become a place in Europe?

No top 8 i'm afraid.  If West ham win ECL they get into EL, and could do so whilst still getting relegated 🤣

So in the scenario that WH win the ECl and get Europa. Does that mean that 6th gets the ECL and 7th would miss out on anything because we can’t have 8 teams in Europe?

Premier League website states:

“The winner of UEFA Europa Conference League is guaranteed a place in UEFA Europa League group stages.  If a Premier League club win the UEFA Europa Conference League and do not qualify for the UEFA Europa League via the Premier League or the FA Cup, then they enter the UEFA Europa League group stages as an additional club”

My interpretation of that is the would enter the EL group stage and wouldn’t affect 5th or 6th place qualification from League. They could even be in the same group as an English club I think.

Huge ask but we’ve got to really target 6th and hope either Spurs or Brighton **** up while we are near perfect (and Liverpool don’t go on a run)

I think Spurs are easier to overtake than Brighton.  It will mean we have to beat them when they come to Villa Park.

True, but Liverpool are 1 point behind with 1 game in hand.

Even if we match their results, they only need a draw from their extra game to be finish above us.

It would all depend on the result at Anfield.

When you look at it we're doing exactly what Newcastle were doing 12 months back. Think they finished 9th in the end but it was some run that took them from bottom 3 to top half in less than six months and they also claimed some big scalps in the run in like beating Arsenal.

What they then did well was not assume that 11 could carry over the next 50 game season but went out and signed three top class players, Nick Pope, Botman and Isak. That's given them strength in depth so we need to sign three players of similar calibre otherwise injuries and loss of form will knock us back down the league (especially if we do make europa).

We need to beat Forest first but bit torn what I want from Spurs-Brighton. I'm tempted to say Brighton win as Spurs have the look of team that's just going to chuck in the towel now with caretaker manager and demotivated and injury hit squad.

However Brighton lose and they'll be on 46 points and then have Chelsea away next who will probably get a bounce from Lampard turning up again. They also have Forest away three days after their cup SF which looks a bit of a banana skin fixture and still got all of Arsenal  and Newcastle away and both Manchester clubs at home. And us on the final day of course.

Even though Brighton are playing very well it's certainly not a given they're even going to get draws from some of those games if the other team plays at their best so feels like we can keep in touch with them right up to end of May if we keep churning out wins.

The only guaranteed Euro spots in the league are 1st to 5th

6th and 7th are entirely dependent on who wins the cups.

Surely 6th is already decided from Man. United-Newcastle being league cup final? Barring a disaster, neither will finish below 5th this season so 99.9% 6th is a europa spot.

And basically 7th is in aswell unless Sheffield United win the FA cup?

Only thing I don't like is West Ham winning the europa conference. They're really poor but not like there's a great quality of teams left in competition so bit concerned they'll win that (although still hilarious if they go down).

Liverpool have won 3 away games all season so I can see them getting turned over at least once more away. Got West Ham, Leicester, Leeds and Southampton so they're all desperately battling relegation and Liverpool lost hilariously at Bournemouth in that situation just a few weeks ago.

Hopefully they don't beat Arsenal at weekend as that's the type of result that would get them going again (although again they lost at Bournemouth the week after beating Man. United 7-0).

I don't see Liverpool getting 65 points, might get up to 60-61 if they churn out home wins.
