A loan would be fine if there was an obligation to buy next season…

but an option to buy gives us no guarantee and the potential return of an out of favour player on massive wages who we initially paid a big transfer fee for…

Making him all the more difficult to shift then…

🤦‍♂️

If the loan covers 100% of the wages and that’s the only offer on the table from a club that want him and somewhere he wants to go, then we don’t have a lot of choice.

Like I say, if Digne was on 60-80k a week, I doubt we’d be having this conversation. But, he isn’t, it’s believed he’s on either £165k a week or China’s GDP depending on your source and we can’t sustain that IF we plan to bring others like Diaby in.

Ings, Digne and dare I say, Coutinho were all daft signings simply because of the money it cost us. In their own right, they’re not bad players but they’re all around the age of 30 and were brought here on £125-165k a week with a significant transfer fee on top. I’m hoping these days are behind us.

Based on the reports online, they won’t be paying 100% or anything even close 😭

Thought they were loaded now?!!

Yes, they were both daft signings. But some people think there is some sort of agenda against them when there simply isn’t…

There is no agenda. Even Ings did a decent enough job when called upon.

Unfortunately the club just can’t afford to keep them AND bring in the players they’d like.

Digne was very good today but he'll have fewer days easier. His biggest test was the amount of running he had to do given Everton gave him the entirety of Villa Park to maraud into.

The only reason you'd sell him is his contract, he's a good solid PL left back with a wicked cross. But he's on mental money and we need to be cute with the finances.

If we sign Acuna, say spend £10-12 million + doing it and then have to pay him circa £60/70k wages we're not massively better off FPP-wise. Particularly if we have to pay part of Digne's salary whilst he's at Nice.

And - as Risso points out - it's a risk guesstimating if Acuna is even suitable for the PL. Digne we know def is.  Personally I'd keep him to Jan at least. We have a strong possibility of extra group games in the ECL, so why chance it. It's not as if Digne's value will fall off the edge of a cliff between now and then.

I can’t remember many bad games he has had at all or goals that has been his fault. I think he is a specialist left back who is solid defensively, a safe passer and good going forward with a great cross in him.

Dont understand at all why we would let him go.

Agree with all of this, but his wages are clearly a problem (all jokes aside). If we can get in someone equal to him or better, as well as help with ffp, the its worth it.

His crossing is great.

We surely must have a left back coming in, and if he goes on loan they better be paying his wages. Otherwise what's the point unless he isn't the profile the manager wants maybe.

It's surprising we haven't been able to get a permanent fee for him given the Saudi insanity, he's clearly not shit.

Really is brutal to bin him off. I mentioned before I can get on board if it’s purely financial but if Acuña is essentially a break even then I don’t get it

Still, in Emery and the new regime we trust.

What a strange scenario if we loan him out to buy Acuna.

Seems a fairly moderate sideways move, no? Hopefully Acuna will shine if that is the plan.

We’d have to be paying £100m + for Acuna to break even loaning out Digne. Madness!

Are we really not going to receive a fee for him?

Bloke cost 25m...

Yeah not ideal is it. I suppose the thing is he has 3 years on a contract rumoured to be between £120,000 and £160,000 PW. That means he'll be costing the club £18-25M if he sees out his contract here. Maybe the club think it's just best to cut their losses?
