Realistically aren't finishing any higher than 9th. It's as good as time as any to give Sanson and Bailey a run of 4-5 starts. Traore aswell should get some minutes off the bench. Don't get just continually starting Ings because he cost 30m. Or picking Luiz every week because we'll have to sell him if he isn't interested in signing a new deal. I'm far from the most anti-Gerrard guy on here. Ultimately though when the board sacks a popular and successful manager the metric is going to be raised higher for the next manager. The crime sheet against DS basically went along the lines of...a) never changing system mid game if we were getting completely dominated b) not using his subs quickly enough c) not giving fringe players like Sanson proper chances d) not having a clue how to get Ings and Watkins effectively linking up when both starting. If Gerrard is guilty of this he'll get criticism aswell particularly as the bench we named today is lightyears ahead of what we were naming 12 months ago when likes of Hourihane, Engels and Kienan Davis were on it. I think the suspicion is that SG will need to spend an eye-watering amount of money just to keep us mid-table. There seems an almost equal amount of excitement at what could happen, along with a frustration at just how much Gerrard has to learn as a rookie manager. The question is did we really need to experiment like this considering the position of relative strength of the club, currently reflected in the unusual amount of quality players on the bench? We should not be finishing lower than 10th now. 9th is certainly decent from Gerrard considering where we were when he turned up. We now have the best owners we have ever had. We have a thriving academy that is levels ahead of any previous stage in our history. Our team has just won three on the bounce and matched a champions league chasing team stride for stride on their own patch. We’ve got Coutinho who is the most high profile signing we have ever made. We have a high profile, young manager who has done a great job coming in and steering an utterly rudderless ship into calmer waters. We sadly, also have a small minority of spoilt fans who will never be happy and should really consider a more enjoyable way to spend their leisure time. We’ve got Coutinho ffs. Try and enjoy it and cut the man who bought him here a massive amount of slack! We have a massive opportunity to achieve real progress with Gerrard. The biggest threat to that is the impatience of a small but very vocal minority of fans. Nothing wrong with wanting to do a little better sometimes. The owners have already shown their ruthless side as many on here were happy to give DS until Feb/March to sort things out, Wes and Nas weren't. 9th is fine for me this season but next season I don't want to be double figures off likes of West Ham and Wolves otherwise you wonder what's the point of spending 100m + when those two aren't always during pre seasons. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hes going to get next season and most likely a healthy dollop of transfer funds.
