Is there any wonder though, we're a s*** midtable team making up the numbers.

As has been established on the forum there are four players at best who would make a top six team.

It's futile.

Of course but no harm having a go. We went there in 2020 when in the bottom 3 and they were champions elect and put in a better effort

Nobody is saying go there and win but at least try too

All three have managers in place for the entire season and pre season though. Brighton and Southampton have had good managers in place for years now. That makes a difference

Agree. Brighton, Wolves and Southampton stand out as smaller clubs with really good managers.

Bit too soon to be judging him harshly imho. yeah he gave Ollie and some of the midfield one more chance after Leeds. Dropping them would have been a gamble because we played sensationally for 15 minutes against Leeds who are a wild card team.

It will be fair to judge him harshly if he doesnt make changes for Watford though thats for sure. We only lost 1 nil to Newcastle but imho the performance was far worse than the scoreline suggests.

These comparisons with Sherwood are a nonsense

Well Sherwood has a better winning start at Villa with shitter players, so Gerrard has to beat that comparison.  Sherwood won 8 from his first 13 compared to Gerrards 5

Looking tactically clueless when Plan A is found out looks to be another comparison

Hearing a fair few changes being made for the Watford game. Gerrard not happy behind closed doors.

We have to remember this is as good as his interview before the Liverpool job, whenever it comes up.

He should open them then 🤣

Gerrard would need to work miracles here to get the Liverpool job. I hope he gets it then! Liverpool won't be sentimental when it comes to replacing Klopp.

Yes and Sherwood deserves a lot of credit for keeping us up and getting us to the FA Cup final but its too soon to draw comparisons.  He needs to clear out the deadwood.

How much deadwood do we really have? Everyone who's surplus to requirements is currently out on loan.

Not sure if already posted but this lad has nailed it. We've all heard of the Diamond formation but Gerrard has introduced the Pokeball formation, except all we're catching is a bad GD

No, he hasn't. He's made the 10s extra far forward in the visual for effect. It's not how it is. He's also not the furthest forward of the midfield 3 either. It's a general  2 3 4 1 in possession. Issue is we don't have the midfield 3 good enough to play this system.

We dont have any deadwood, the club system is that a new manager should be able to come in and adapt to the players we have with no more rebuilds required

Absolutely correct. Midfield is key in this system - but the ‘engine room’ is very important whatever the system in use. We need to accept that only Ramsey comes anywhere near being good enough and he’s still learning his trade. We need two midfield players now but also a central striker and central defender are needed. If we have to prioritise then midfield first for me.

Comparison's to Sherwood are desperate and pathetic and obviously fueled by some sort of almost fanatical hatred of Gerrard. Smith only won six of his first thirteen matches but didn't see him being compared to Sherwood. Anyway Sherwood only won five of his first thirteen games in the league and we took sixteen points from those first thirteen games which is less than Gerrard.

I’ll have some of what you must be smoking. No deadwood at Villa - tell me about Kalinic for a start. So a new manager should adapt to mediocre, mid table, players even though the owners and fans want the club to move upwards quickly? What’s going on is part of a long term development so don’t complain if we see no quick fix superficiality.

Kalinic hasnt played for Villa in 3 years, not sure how he has any blame on this season. We finished 11th last season with 55 points and added Coutinho, Digne, Ings, Bailey, Buendia, Chambers, Young to that squad

The manager is brought into improve our position and its not like he has been given the Norwich squad to achieve that
