Agree.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in how detrimental this will be to the domestic game and to Aston Villa.

The owners might just think, ‘what’s the point?’, because honestly, there is no point. Is there?

A super league full of teams that can never be broken in to. What becomes of Villa? Like you say, a second class citizen. Even if the unthinkable happens and it goes ahead alongside the PL, these clubs will be super rich and it will be even less of a level playing field than it is now. They’ll be super rich and every other club - poor in comparison.

That is the major concern here. Owners and fans of clubs will think.. what’s the point? This could literally kill our domestic game and the people running it know that Asia and Africa are more lucrative so who gives a f*** right?

And then, on top of all this, if it doesn’t go ahead, it will only be because UEFA have bowed to the pressure and given the big teams what they want in the form of a ringfenced CL or something along those lines.

Perez just became the most powerful person in football and he’ll destroy our game.

This is really, really bad.

This pessimistic take might absolutely be right, but of course the flipside is if it is, Aston Villa just became almost worthless so our owners might find it extremely hard to sell even if they want to.

Everton are leveraged to the hilt with their new stadium and now they've been blindsided by this. This could destroy them.

Our owners bought an asset for £60m and invested a couple of hundred million into turning it into an asset worth £400m. If this goes through it'll be worth £60m again.

It's an assault on clubs like ours which takes hundred of millions of pounds out of the pockets of people like Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris.

That's why I don't think it'll go through quite as meekly as some proposals have in the past.

Or be left with no option but to vote in favour of the proposal and hope the crumbs they are allowed are enough

Its a bit ironic how the founder members of the premier league, ourselves included, threw the football league under the bus for the love of the money, its a bit hypocritical to complain about these 6 teams doing the same to us,lol.

Agreed. Progress. Karma. Call it what you will but we've done it sort of too. This takes it to another level.

Can anybody tell me why Athletico madrid got the nod ?

Probably bribery or blackmail. Everton, Lazio, Roma, Marseilles, Dortmund, Porto, all on equal footing with them more or less. Somewhat random inclusion.

Hmm, so in theory, Aston Villa could win the PL and qualify to be a punching bag for a season in the Elite Super Wank League?

Exactly.

Throw a few crumbs to the peasants every now and again to keep them quiet and desperate.

Atletico are a class above Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs etc.

They are a massive club.

Imagine a scenario if Villa or any qualifying peasant club win the Super Wank League but aren't allowed to defend their title. Absurd.
