Sulberto21
UEFA allegedly had already agreed to guarantee these clubs a spot in the UCL every season. These clubs have basically stuck a finger up at UEFA. **** UEFA too.

I think many of us would be outraged for a few years, but we'd get over it and continue supporting Villa, no matter which league they played in. Genuinely think it'd be my 'out' if Villa were involved in any way. Over the years (30+) you realise that the bad times far outweigh the good ones. The logic and reality of supporting Villa is that it will mostly be pain... But logic is irrelevant as I love this club and have followed them through thick and thin. But if Villa got involved in this, or it destroys football completely, then I'd just walk away, I'd be done. And this is why it misses the point so much, forget the money, it's the illogical side - the passion if you will! You get excited because you've known the pain, you get interested because it's always different, you get nervous because you can win and lose. Will, for example, Arsenal be happy being the bottom team forever in a mini league? Will fans suddenly realise someone needs to be the small fish in a pond? And why bother being an invited guest in their league (as they suggest five places may be awarded on domestic league merit) as success is irrelevant. I can't see it getting very far and I'd love to see some current managers and players from these teams coming out and saying "no thanks". 1st step, fine them for bringing game in to disrepute. If they carry on, ban them from domestic league completely. Finally, if they carry on, completely nobble them by banning players from international football. I can see quite a backlash from their own supporters too, Man City and Chelsea fans are newer 'big teams', Spurs are barely that anyway, Arsenal would arguably be the whipping boys - the fans of these teams aren't quite as deluded, self-important and entitled as Liverpool and United fans. This will die, but it's the scars it leaves behind that will mould the future of football.
Delphinho123
So, assuming UEFA sticks to its word, these clubs will now have to quit the PL, correct? Could we genuinely see these 6 clubs removed from the PL tomorrow? They’ve essentially withdrawn from the ECA, gone ahead and formed a new league without telling anyone and they expected all that to happen with absolutely no consequence? This is the maddest thing ever. These 12 clubs think they’re bigger than FIFA, UEFA, the fans, the lot. It’s time anyone with any ounce of power stands up to them and bans them, disqualifies them, etc. The PL may even be cancelled before we play Man City. All of a sudden, relegation, promotion etc. It all changes. Im so lost.

Hell, even during playoffs it's hard to replicate the sort of atmosphere college sports create, but that still does not stop me from watching professional sports. Why would this be any different to you and me, who are not Brummies? I honestly watch very little professional sports. I’ll watch the playoffs if one of my Minnesota teams are in it, but I find it tough to watch any NBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL regular season games. And I wouldn’t tune in for a second if it had a PPV element associated with it. Only regular season games that are appointment TV for me are MNUFC matches. Whelan scored the equalizer in added time. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. Guess he felt he still owed us one and took that awful PK that got Bruce fired. All is forgiven Glenn.

Sulberto21
My prediction - lengthy negotiations with the premier League and the fa doing eff all but announcing a "victory" of the super League making a token investment into grass roots football and the EFL. "We had to protect the integrity of the pyramid of football and thus the investment into the EFL especially shows the commitment to the sustainability of the game is at the forefront of the super League's thoughts." Sulberto21
Another point - why on earth is Roy Keane allowed to comment on this? He's the one who broke the wage structure at man United all those years ago. He signed a contract worth 80k a week when everyone else was on around 30 or less. Representative for Wellingborough. I think you’ll be surprised. We’re talking about clubs going against FIFA and UEFA and forming their own competition. I don’t think this is a case of everyone just getting together and accepting this. UEFA as an organisation becomes largely redundant doesn’t it if this happens? The PL as an organisation suddenly becomes a lot poorer. The fans will revolt if their clubs aren’t playing in a domestic competition. I think you’re about to see the biggest fight in football ever unfold.

The notion that Scunthorpe United could conceivably win promotion all the way up to the Premier League through acumen and endeavor is at the heart of the vast majority of soccer leagues outside of MLS. That teams are where they are along the ladder on merit. That they qualify for cup tournaments based on results, not a fixed franchise scheme that guarantees their position forever. How boring! It's what makes relegation battles so compelling. In the USA, teams near the bottom of their divisions just go through the motions for up to months at a time, knowing nothing will happen one way or the other.
